I am a big fan of cicadas and have even worked on some music for them. Your piece got my vote. It is well metered and I liked your descriptions.
It might be worth extending your piece a bit. Maybe 4 more lines to make it an even 16? I've done two pieces a bit like this one before, one about fireflies, buried deep in my portfolio. There are a lot of additional words that work with your rhymes.
Good luck with the voting (I just got you up to 4, in second).

Thank you so much, Harambe, for your praise of my poem and your vote. I had thought of extending the poem, but the choice of GOOD rhymes is limited and I did not want to repeat myself.

Lol! Great poem about a cicada. A perfect photo to go with the poem as well. It rhymed very well and it flowed smoothly also. I enjoyed reading this. Keep up the good work!

Ciao mystery poet, you now have two votes.
I spend a lot of time observing insects, I find them interesting.
My favourite is spiders spinning their web, it's a fascinating watch.
In summer I put a piece of meat or chicken on a saucer and while I eat, I watch the wasps come and feed on the meat.
They now and then come around my hand to thank me. They are smart and sense I mean no harm.
Now you know why I gave you my vote.

Oh, tempeste, I truly appreciate your endorsing my poem with your vote. I like to watch butterflies the most, especially if there are several flitting around the garden.

Your descriptive poem is a great entrain the mono rhyme contest.
Each line makes sense and has perfect end rhyme. I love the description of the cicada's movement along the leaf.
Good luck in the contest.

This is a cute monorhyme about the cicada that flows smoothly and naturally. It doesn't feel awkward or contrived. And it paints a picture of these, little critters returning to either serenade, or, irritate us.

Thank you very much, June, for your praising "Cicada Watch." I never enjoyed listening to their incessant buzz, but I was amused by their erratic flights.
Comment from Aiona
This poem made me giggle. Especially the last two lines. The poem fits the Monorhyme prompt as every single line has the same end rhyme. I was a little confused by this one line that doesn't seem to fit.
I'm not sure why "It did not seem to want to stay." and yet other lines indicate it is staying put, such as "Six legs held fast, refused to stray."

I liked this poem about the cicadas once I was getting on a bus when the bus driver told me I had a hitchiker - cicada was sitting on my bag. I shook him off and he flew off and the bus driver laughed.
This summer some resturants in the East Coast are talking about serving cicada's on the menu why not I say? people in other countries like Korea eat fried grasshoppers and crickets.

Thank you, Jake. I am delighted you like my poem. Last summer you could not evade the cicadas and dogs got sick if they date them.
Comment from Wendy G
Very nicely done monorhyme - the rhymes were smooth and appropriate, as you described the approach of the cicada, desribed it and its activity thoughtfully and finished with a gentle warning to it not to become prey for birds. I enjoyed your careful observation of the small things of nature. Best wishes for the contest.
