Cicada Watch

by RodG

When loud cicadas came in May,

I watched one slowly pick its way

Along a leaf with much delay.

Although it never stopped to play,

It did not seem to want to stay.

This insect stalled just to survey

The world around it on that day.

Its filmy wings a golden-grey

Against its thorax firmly lay.

Six legs held fast, refused to stray.

“You better move,” I had to say.

“To birds, my friend, you’re easy prey.”
