Wow, just wow. It takes a humble person to see what they didn't have and look at it as a blessing. Not the father leaving, but the Father who was there. Beautifully written. Gretchen

How very sad it is that your real Father was not part of your life Mike, but you have been comforted by your spiritual Father here. Did you ever meet your father as an adult? Your words are warm and comforting and I felt your strong faith in this post, love Dolly x x x

This poem is a portrait of the ideal father figure, and the qualities that you articulate here seem so much like my perceptions of my own father that I felt compelled to give you a fiver for sharing what we sometimes take for granted, until it is too late. estory

My father was there until he died, he was badgered by my mother all his life, it drove him to drink and the arms of another woman, poor dad, but he was a good man, but not really a father, beautifully written, fortunately my friends had good dads. Beautifully written mike, blessings Roy

This poem, A Poem about a Father, presented with seven couplets, lists all the positive aspects we can see in a good father. It is a shame that many sons and daughters are cheated out of the experience.

Fathers are SO VERY important in the upbringing of a child... and you are so right in your author notes of the many different ways their absence affects a child's view of self in society and even of society itself... A wonderful offering with a great follow-up, sir -- thanx for sharing! ;) Yvette

Touching poem, my friend. I can relate to having grown up and lived without my father most of my life. Thankfully, my Heavenly Father fits the bill and loves me as He loves you. Beautifully expressed and real for the contest.
Sending you my best today as always.
Sal :)) xo
