You've got to admire Ben Paul and Sylvia for being willing to take menial jobs and doing their best to do them well. There's no shame or downside to it, and it's a good lesson especially to today's youth who always want to seem to start out at the top and would rather be unemployed than to "lower themselves" to a menial job.
Seems like I read the book you referenced a long time ago, and it was a good marriage primer. I enjoyed Sylvia's psychoanalysis of Wanda. She has a good intuitive sense of people.
This is proving to be a very circuitous and interesting trip home for this intrepid pair. Nicely written.

Thank you.
I wanted to lengthen their Chicago adventure, but it felt like repetition and redundancy even to me. Besides, how many pickles could I realistically put them in without either getting badly hurt, especially at their ages?

Wow, this pastor is amazing he is able to take anything with a pure gram of God: "Within the hour Ben Paul was strolling up and down Main Street with two posterboards tied together with yarn, a huge smile on his face as he met people. He imagined his father street preaching two-minute sermons - point, shoot, reload" Thank you for sharing and good luck with the next chapter.

Wayne,
This is a great addition to your book. It is coming along nicely. It is organized and well written and flows nicely.
The good Lord always provides for Sylvia and Ben Paul.
Great job

Sounds like pastor got his "thank you" for the gift in an intimate setting, hehehe:-)
I would add a dialogue tag to the paragraph that begins "Wanda, I'm no psychiatrist" We kind of know who is speaking, but it's best to be sure.
Ben and Sylvia certainly have had some interesting career choices:-)
Looking forward to that sermon.

Thank you. I'll tag that line, or at least make some reference to Sylvia.

I enjoyed this segment of your book and it rings true regarding the owner of the ring and trying to get herself something special - but the sort of thing which can never satisfy. Sylvia handled it well and with insight - and now the Lord has provided them both with a little work to tide them over.
Nice work.

Thank you. The net amount they would earn would be piteously small, but I had to get them into a bookstore. (smiley face here)
Comment from Carol Hillebrenner
It's great that they found the owner of the ring but may not be such a good thing that Ben feels called to preach in the ring owner's church. They both went out and got jobs, but Sylvia was only happy about Ben's job when he advertises the bookstore instead of Liberty tax business.

Sylvia was afraid for Ben's life, dancing around like that at the Liberty Agency.
Thank you for your very nice review.

"Dancing like a headless chicken." Now, that paints a picture that I won't soon forget. Kind of would remind me of B.R. Lakin screaming and yelling pounding on the pulpit, then jumping up and down as he ran back and forth on the stage, and he wasn't a spring chicken at that time. Old fashion tent revivals where his favorites. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. I wanted to avoid the cliche'd 'chicken with its head cut off'.

A good and solid chapter. I will say, it made me laugh out loud in parts, but I do understand why it is written that way. It fits with story's tone.
Wanda started to speak, but before she began, Sylvia continued. "That's how affairs start... women with unmet needs."
-That's how we on FanStory, and stories with a "religious" sway choose to claim why women cheat. It keeps that PG theme going.
The key is communication.
-How does communication satisfy an "Unmet" need? If that need is a big one? All the talk in the world will not make him grow.

My thinking was that after years of marriage, if he hasn't caught on to what it takes, he never will. So just tell him. Express yourself. Communicate.
The 5 love languages are: gifts, touch, service, quality time, and words of affirmation. A person may not truly know what their own preference is, but by talking and listening, a partner may hear - "I don't know. you never help around the house," or "The last real gift just for me was 3 years ago for Christmas. When we were dating you surprised me all the time."
Stuff like that.
Thanks again.
Thanks for the very positive review.

Sorry the hospital interfered with my reading of your work. I enjoyed this chapter very much and still feel part of the tale. Loved the episode of the ring and the way you handled it.

I can easily identify with the pull of the Holy Sprit, it is quite compelling sometimes, I can remember the gospel music missions that we went on, differing in their varying intensities, but mostly the people who seeking answers, and fulfilling them, we didn't know, but God did. Beautifully written, blessings Roy
