Yes, head injuries can be extremely dangerous. My husband had a skull fracture as a teenager, and we've often wondered if it's the cause of his seizures he started having in his 50's. Nobody can say for sure. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed reading.

Thank you for your involved review. My brother can no longer drive because he had a bad seizure where I think he took out two or three cars. He still has them but not driving so it's okay. His major difficulty he identified is sequencing. Fortunately his girlfriend helped write it down for him so he would know how to go in and take a shower to bring clothes or not bring clothes but he's got that figured out now so he feels better about that. At first I couldn't imagine why he couldn't just go in and take a shower but he explained it to me. He said I have trouble with sequencing.

Hi Liz, I am so sorry that this should happen at all. But I can understand the need for solitude. To me it makes perfectly sense. I will be looking out for your next post. Ulla;)))

This is well written and interesting. Your family almost seems to be accident prone, Nike especially, and your city seems to be very hilly. Necker checking could have actually been dangerous.

Thank you for your insightful review. It was a little town and we lived at the bottom of these hills. I never thought of it that way. We lived down by the brook. And the people who lived up on the hill on the main route were the ones that were quite swanky. We were bullied by their swanky children in school.

Liz, This is a very interesting chapter you have penned. it seems like you had to see and deal with many things that to me would be nerve wracking. I look forward to reading your next chapter. I hope he wakes up and is good. Thanks for sharing. love and blessings, Teri

. Thank you for your caring review. I can give you a spoiler and tell you he did fully come out of the coma after 9 months and he calls me about 12 times a day. i don't always answer it. but he's got a wonderful girlfriend to take good care of him too. They've been together for almost 20 years. His wife was living with a stranger for 9 years and she finally found someone that she could relate to and has been with him now for about 30+ years

That is a whole bunch of wheels going down and near accidents and a really devastating accident which changed Nike's life. Thanks for sharing this theme of cars and bikes.

I questioned over whether I should say asked or said because I got this link about what to use for punctuation and when there's a wonderful ink I'm going to give you oh I don't know if they'll let me have a let me give you a link I'll try it and see. As I think about it asked is an active word for talking so maybe that would work.

You can use either asked or said, but the "as he picked it off" isn't a sentence so should be part of the previous sentence.
reply by the author on 28-May-2024
Thank you I realize that now. You should check that link out I gave you, it's fascinating The person has taken every situation anybody would ever have when they're writing and shows the punctuation for it. You may already know all that punctuation but that's one of the reasons I never used to use dialogue because I was worried it was different than when I was a kid. I wasn't really confident with it but when someone on here gave me the link for that, now I have all kinds of confidence . What that blog is essentially saying is that I can't say They shrugged, "I don't want to go" because shrug is not a way of speaking. So that's very cool.

Yes, thanks for the site. She sounds like a great editor. I remember Jay Squires picking up on a similar faux pas that I did. There are two movements in speech tags. One that said to stop saying the worn-out "said" and be creative. Then the counter movement that said just say "said" instead of using inaudible verbs for speech! Lol.

Hi Liz, your story continues to take me down memory lane. I can relate to the polio vaccine. I remember it well. We had three dosages. The first was an injection, and I do remember that it hurt like hell. After that, we got what appeared to be sugar cubes at two separate intervals.

Learning to drive can be exciting and a lot of fun, but it usually comes with some bumps, scrapes, bruises, or sometimes worse. Your story about Nike was sad. My feeling is that he did not survive, but maybe he did, but in tough shape. Of special note:

--Nike had left work and was sitting on his bicycle near the middle line waiting to cross onto another street when he was hit at 30 mph. by a minister who was going to be giving a talk to a youth group.

(The above was very sad for both people involved. You are correct, sadly, head injuries are nothing like portrayed on TV.)

The trials and tribulations of youth. Whoever said that we should be born young to grow old was so correct. Well done. Margaret

I'm not sure why it is that someone else's life is so interesting, but this is a good example of that. It's a peek inside experiences that made you, you.
I'm giving this a six because it moved me and because you write well. I read all the way through, no pauses.
I don't often read stories or non- fiction on here because they don't flow through my brain smoothly. This did. Well done!

This was very enjoyable. I love the personal anecdotes that are in your story. The way you blend moments of humor with more serious stories makes it even more enjoyable. Your writing easily kept me engaged and your little details and excellent descriptions brought each scene to life.

I am glad I saved an extra str. This was engrossing and also heartbreaking in part. My wife's younger brother was killed riding on the back of a motorcycle. To speak of more "pleasant" things, i remember so well those polio shots. I'll never forget one day when I got my shot and my mother and I walked by a neighborhood store. There was a beautiful toy gun in the window. Seventy-Five cents. I never had that kind of money! My mom said, "I'd bet you'd like that, wouldn't you?" and bought it for me. Nowadays, someone would probably report her for giving her kid a gun.

Thank you for your great review and for your shiny six . How sweet of your mom. Isn't it too bad nowadays somebody would probably be reporting her. We had guns all the time I got them for Christmas. A two gun holster with two guns in it.

We never had any intention of harming anyone. It's in a child's nature to play cowboy (as I still do) or cops and robbers. But we had heroes like Roy Rogers and Gene Autry who taught us right from wrong.

The only Cowboys we knew were the good guys. My favorite that a lot of people don't remember or maybe didn't know about was Whiplash Wilson He actually was a real person because I looked him up. What I liked about him was when he wanted to get up in the top level of the barn he'd just take his whip wrap around one of the4x6s and got himself up onto that loft.

That last head injury sounds very serious. I hope he recoveroed. This chapter was all ahout cars and accidents. I remember driving in the 50s without license or permit. I got in some scraps with my dads car as well. I'm continuing to enjoy stories of your life.
