A fantastic Katauta Poem, Gypsy. I certainly enjoyed the dual pictures. Your words were phenomenal because they dwelt on the strawman. Very well done and greatly enjoyed. Blessed Be n Hugs!!!

This poem gives feeling to the straw man. I like that. I do wish the crow would not have left. The straw man is sad. The artwork you chose is perfect. Once again you gave us a wonderful package to enjoy.

This was reminiscent of the strawman in the wizard of Oz. At least for me. He had no brain yet made friends with all he met. This strawman seems no different. Very moving poem. Gretchen

Seems like the "strawman" wasn't very good at his job as a scare crow. It seems the crow was quite comfortable spending time with him and only left him behind when he wanted. But the raindrop makes us think that the straw man misses him.

Hi Gypsy Queen,
if only the crow hadn't 'picked' the straw man's brain to find out who he really was?

The raindrop on the straw man's eye... his knowing, 'the ruse is up'... nothing but padding... another empty man with little substance to his existence. Yes, a very old tale.

Striking presentation!
We know the crow will be back, straw is a great nesting material.

Very haunting quote!

With our thoughts we create...
empty expectations.

Warmest regards,
James.

Fly Crow Fly!
This is a very powerful poem. Straw men are men made of straw. The Crow stays in the cornfield only until she knows wings can carry here away. The Crow transforms and rebuilds. The straw man however just becomes an old straw man.

We saw our 2nd youngest grandson perform in the Wizard of Oz, a couple of weeks ago, the straw was, of course a favourite, in fact I wrote a poem to the time of "If I had a brain" but being in love with a crow, I didn't know that!, beautifully written Gypsy, blessings Roy

Thanks for enlightening me once again, Gypsy. I wasn't aware that this form was called Katauta. Another gem gathered.
I am treading carefully here because I have used Oz as an iconic theme in several poems - but (I hesitate to say this) I guess we're not in Kansas anymore. But the meaning? This is certainly the most enigmatic poem I have seen on this site.
The crow (symbol of death?) takes off from the enchanted poppy field to fly back to his mistress, who thinks she has foiled Dorothy's attempt to reach the Emerald City. Now the guesswork: if the water on the Straw man's eye is (as you say) a raindrop, then it could be the harbinger of the snow which Glinda will send to reverse the narcotic coma induced by the poppies.
AND if that is so, then your wonderful Katauta poem is about HOPE and I claim the cigar. Or I am completely wrong and am carried away by a flying monkey!
Thanks for a lovely puzzle to solve.
Paul

Hahaha, holy cow, Paul, you have an amazing imagination. One of the beauties of haiku, and other Japanese poetic forms, is that the satori may mean different things to different people. To me, the straw man is in love with the crow. The raindrop signifies a tear.

But it can totally be about the Wizard of Oz. ;)

Thank you very much for your time, kind review, and helpfull feedback, Paul.

Imagination is everything, Gypsy. I don't smoke cigars anymore, so it hardly matters.
A straw man in love with a crow? And you think I am imaginative?
    Hmm.
