No wonder this post earned the All-time Best status and finished second place in the contest. As I read through your post, I finally understood how the US Marines have developed into loyal warriors with deep faith in God, love for country and its people. Please keep sharing stories about our soldiers. Warm salute to all the veterans.

Douglas, this is a wonderful tribute. Thank you for sharing and for your service. My stepfather was a Marine Corp Major, and all my stepbrothers were born in Okinawa. My middle brother, Steve, served in the Green Beret and as a Weapons Sergeant. He died of Agent Orange exposure from his three tours of Vietnam. I miss him dearly.

Douglas, this is a wonderful tribute. Thank you for sharing and for your service. My stepfather was a Marine Corp Major, and all my stepbrothers were born in Okinawa. Your treatises about the marines is excellent. I dated a Marine Drill Sergeant at one time, and he was disciplined and strict. He went into the corps a shy scatterbrained, and came out as a super trooper. I went through Army basic training myself, and it was rough. When I heard what Marines went through (just in basic), I was shocked.
Thank God for the Marines; I enjoy my freedom because of many of them.

Also, on four destroyers but never got his hands dirty.
Thank God but the bottle did catch up with him in '72.
But the Marines are first in.
Yes, and unfortunately they'll be the first knocked out.
And, in times of severe war.
Hopefully we've grown up and never will see a World war III?

This article, Once A Marine Always a Marine, gives me a raging hard-on, of course. I spent the Corps' 199th birthday at MCRD. I retired in 97. When I tell people that the Marines is like a religion, I mean it. They think I'm joking. You know I'm not.

Oh Rah!!! Devil Dog! Thought I had that one in the bag but you never know with voters! I love the Brotherhood. Still pay for old school marines dinners when I see them and always get a handshake from my brothers. The story was spot on. Once a Marine Always a Marine. It doesn?t fade with a DD214

Very nice tribute. Yes, the Marines are hard core and have done this country proud for many, many years. I don't know if I would place them above the other branches though. The Army has the longest history and the Navy is right there. But, just the word Marine has a meaning no other can match.

I can remember a name given to the British specialist fighting group the Royal Marines, or commandos were incredibly affective in clandestine operations, and Aussie special forces would be smaller in number but most affective.I've seen some of their training methods, not many applicants make it.
