This is another well written piece with bundles of information and important facts. It is a fine line, in my experience, to get the information and action balance. Thank you for sharing and take care.

Gareth,
A very nice continuation of your series. I enjoyed the examples you provided, too. Those always help so much. It's funny how people learn things so differently. Offering the same info in different ways is a big help. Smart guy!
Only one wee note:
--> clumsy, bothered about what other(s) think of him,
Thanks so much! Hope there's more to come!

I just posted a short biographical piece about a fall that maimed me. I wrote just the facts. Maybe I can embellish part 2. I wondered if you might offer suggestions if you read it.

Comment from Wayne Fowler
Excellent advice.
My take away is that just about anything goes as long as it's done well, and with moderation. But even the moderation rule doesn't always apply. I've read criticisms of Hemingway's 'The Old man and the Sea', as well as Tolkien's 'The Hobbit' - too moderate, too much action. But no one argued about their success.
Thanks for your advice despite my rant.
Best wishes.

Oh yes, describing actions is imperative in writing, but in a movie or stage script as well, but one doesn't have a director of course. This is a brilliant suggestion G, certainly for writing, well done, blessings Roy

I have enjoyed all your installments on writing. They are very helpful and your examples really work. I admit to missing the usual prompts at the end. Never-the-less, this piece really explains well ways of using small actions to show emotion, intent, personality, etc.
Another thing that doesn't always serve to further the plot, but which can add depth, mood, and emotion to a scene in a more subtle way, is setting. Will you be writing about setting soon?

I've been away and haven't read the first parts of this teaching. I'll do that soon. Thanks for such clear instructions. Just hope I can achieve. I'm working on a little "book." Now, stop laughing. hahahahahaha

Thank you for this information, G. I think I understand what you are saying. I think I do a pretty good job with this and hope I can improve as I continue to write. I am too old to dream of being a famous writer, I started too late in life, but still I am pleased when someone tells me they like my work. Thanks for the lesson. Nancy:)
