I enjoyed reading the first part of this about your auntie giving you advice at 16, and what great advice. There's a lot of expectation placed on people about when they should be awake or asleep. I wish others were more like your auntie and encouraged us to use our nighttime wakefulness constructively. I wouldn't be surprised if her questions to you about that war got you thinking more about the subject, and perhaps got you a better result in the test.

You are probably right about doing better on the test.
I do have a question for you: What the 4, rather than a 5, rating. Was it content? Was it spag? Was it presentation? What did I do wrong to earn only a 4? What could have been changed to create a 5 rating in your eyes?
I want to improve my writig, so I need to know what this post fell short in your eyes. Thanks ann

Don't think of it as falling short. It's just that different things interest different people. The interaction between you and your auntie caught my attention, but I switched off before the end. Someone else may feel differently.

I always say you die twice. The first time is when you die physically. The second time is when someone speaks your name for le last time. I really enjoyed your story.

Earl, I am impressed and impacted by your words 'You die twice'. I've never completely conceptualized that thought before AND it is absolutely one of the bases of my essay. A powerful truth. Thanks so much for the words of encouragement and the 6 gleaming stars. ann

I found this story fascinating. It began with something I can easily relate to, how to get through those sleepless times most easily, by finding sujects for deep (often soporific) thought... Then it moved on to thinking deeper thoughts - notably about what comes next, and are we really bound by traditional thought in this matter. These were aspects of the question that I had never considered. Thanks for sharing.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. It touched on subjects that are dear to my heart. You have so much passion for life and deep understanding that goes beyond the mundane aspects of living.
I'm not religious, but I'm very spiritual. It's so important to try to contemplate the deeper meanings of life on this planet, especially with all the horror in Ukraine. Best regards, Lilly

Thank you Lilly, for these beautiful 6 shiny stars!! I appreciate your kind words and your sharing of your thoughts. Sometimes the world seems like a very unkind place and it is so difficult to find that place of peace ann

I agree with you on this life after death. I don't believe we ever die. We are infinite and go on forever. I have read a lot about the subject and am quite convinced that this is so. Your writing is clear and concise. I enjoyed it very much.

This gave me much food for thought. I believe we all have a purpose, and that we live on in some form or another. I also liked your conversation with your aunt. She seems to have been very wise. Thanks for sharing!

The objective correlative of your work reminisces a mad man's disjointed tale of different happenings.
The work highlights the protagonist's worry over sleepless nights; the first time visit of her Uncle and his wife, who appeared to be proffering a solution to the problem of sleepless nights before the plot veers into an all comers plot culminating into the primacy of growing where we are planted.
The work earns its texture through its effective use of anecdotes reminiscent of a deliberately intended incoherent story.
Excellent work. Bravo.

If my story came across as incoherent, then I missed the mark and I apologize. My point, capsuled, is we live forever somewhere and in some fashion, so it is important we make our lives worthwhile. Thanks for reading. ann

As the popular saying goes, "There's a lot to unpack here." The biggest takeaway for me from your poem was that life is fleeting for us all, so we should take advantage of every moment here, and anticipate moments there (when we crossover). As to not sleeping at night, some of the smartest, most ambitious people I've ever known have told me that they sleep only 3 or 4 hours a night - too much to think about and do!
And your Aunt Pearl sounds like a very smart cookie.

I like the larger font and bold print very much. I like the positive message about living the Golden Rule on this side. We'll have no choice but to live it on the other side. I especially like the line love given cannot be taken away. I plan to meditate on that.

Meditation can be so beneficial. I'm not really good at it -- I don't think I am anyway. Sometime, I will take one word or something and attempt to spend some minutes just concentrating on it. Thanks so much for reading and commenting. I appreciate. ann

Your thoughts resonate with my own, possibly because we are of an age. I enjoyed your thoughts and essentially agree with them. I would persnaly be interested in your writing experiences and you thoughts, if you might care to share.

Sure I'm interested in sharing writing experiences, thoughts, whatever. I'm out of town this weekend and everything is crazy -- though I certainly get to my computer. Let me know what you want to talk about and I'm in! My email address is: amullen@mulleninsurance.com. It might be easier to communicate via email. thanks for reading and commenting. ann
