Wonderful story within the poem. Being born in France gives me a special perspective. Schools teach the landing at Normandy in great detail and cements World War II as pivotal in global development. I will be using my hourglass timer with a new mind from now on...John

Thanks, John. The landing at Normandy must be one of the most important battles in modern warfare.

'Sands of Normandy', is an exceptionally well-written and heart-breaking piece. It was a privilege to both read and review this talented poet's work. To me this is a six, but unfortunately I've run out of them. I look forward to seeing your next post.

I was deeply moved. This particular special verse commanded a unique story involving a time of war but also a passage combined, turned into a diary like moment that accommodated the individuality of a person sharing an important piece of that very past, what I found as the inspirational epitome of everything. Much enjoyed and I thank you for sharing such a powerful verse.

Paul,
I can see why you'd want to be sure and show this guy off to as many people as possible. Especially right now, I am overjoyed to see the patriotism and love, and honor that are so vividly and wonderfully expressed here. It's a beautiful piece. Thank you!

As I read this a loud to myself, the tears began to fall. Your way of expressing this reality is mind boggling! You brought me on your journey of memories. This flowed beautifully, and the visuals were outstanding! You did a great job with the structure and the rhyme. Extremely well done!

Such a lovely poem and story. I love the idea of putting that sand in an hourglass where you can see it all the time.
I'm impressed with the way your words flow and with how you tell the story so well while keeping in the poetic form.
Very well done!

Thanks, Pookie. I do enjoy writing poems. I'm not writing as much lately because I'm on this website all the time. I've got to change my ways.

And now when I turn that old hour glass
And watch the sand as it pours,
There's an extra minute of time in that hour
That I think of those Normandy shores.
This genuinely brought tears to my eyes, Having been to Normandy to view the graves myself...this is amazing and could easily win. WELL DONE kindest regards Meia :)

This is a really awesome piece, all leading up to that last bit about the extra minute. Man, people are going to remember reading that last stanza. I know I will. Thank you for putting this out there.
