Jesse,
This is a a wonderful story about how some people work hard to fiind ways out of homelessness. It shows also that helping others is always paid forward.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Happy New Year.

Thanks, Joan! You are right on both accounts! Not only did Kathy work hard and find her way out of homelessness, but both I and my brother gave her opportunities to better her life!
Definitely a pay-it-forward way to be!
    Happy 2022, my friend!

Thank you, Carol, for your cheery attitude toward Kathy and her dignity and determination to not be homeless anymore.
She and Arnold did all the necessary steps to climb out of the mission and into their own home.
I appreciate your kind words, and I am glad to meet you, too!
    Have a lovely day,

It is so hard for those who are homeless to break out of the mould. Sometimes, it seems everything is stacked against them. Obviously, you had a lot to do with helping her and Arnold get re-established in society. Kudos to you.

Thank you, Judy. Yes, we both helped each other so, it was a win-win situation! She was an excellent caregiver and a role model for me as far as being a survivor was concerned. She was so self-sufficient, reliable, and loyal, which are all the things I look for in a caregiver, and a friend. Thanks for the excellent rating and review.
    Have a good evening,

It is always encouraging to read about individuals who rise above homelessness which is such a problem in our country. Your story is well written and holds the reader's interest.

I'm so much touched by this. There is still hope in the world! There are still wonderful people out there. Thank you for helping Kathy; I appreciate her selflessness and will to succeed. Many thanks as well for sharing!

Here: "I finally found the right place and found a service for those in need that paid for their first, last, and deposit so that they could move in" this isn't clear: "for their first, last, and deposit"

Here, "Kathy and her fiance were well on their way, successfully getting off the train wreck heading for chronic homelessness" did you mean, they were about to journey into homelessness?

My very best wishes!

Thank you for this uplifting and positive review. Let me take the time to answer your two questions. First of all, First, last, and deposit is what a person needs to move into an apartment or house. And the phrase "getting off the train wreck heading for chronic homelessness," is just my way of saying they were avoiding the terrible idea of becoming chronically homeless. "Avoiding a train wreck" is just saying avoiding something that would end up bad for those involved. The truth is, there are those who remain homeless for years, sometimes for the rest of their lives. Kathy and Arnold were doing everything in their power to avoid that predicament.
I hope you understand a little bit better what I was saying in this biographical story about Kathy, and her ability to get out of the plight of homelessness.
Thank you for this excellent review and rating.
Have a great rest of your week,
    Jesse

I like this short story. My only critique is that it isn't long enough, although, maybe your intention is to simply wet the reader's appetite? After reading, I'm left wanting to know more about Kathy, her struggle, and some of the emotions she felt along the way. I think you did a good job of explaining her trajectory towards freedom from homelessness. You didn't specifically say she was thankful for the opportunities that other people gave her, but I still get the sense she was very grateful because she continued on the path towards a better life. Thanks for sharing this!

Hello Adwin. Thank you for asking more about Kathy and her struggles. She was a private person and kept these to herself for the most part. I did not know why she and Arnold ended up homeless, for example. But yes, her gratitude was plentiful, and she showed it by the way she worked so hard to satisfy my caregiving needs. I like to keep the reader wanting more, as I have learned previously from my experience as a rock bandleader and vocalist, that you always keep them wanting more!
I appreciate your time and effort reviewing this post and hope you go far, my friend!
    Have a great Monday,

Thank you, Bill, for this encouraging and supportive review. I am glad I helped restore your faith in people. Some of the homeless want a hand-up rather than just a handout. Kathy and Arnold were two of those people. Thank you for your comments and kind words.
    Have a great upcoming week,

James,

This story pulled strongly at my heartstrings for many reasons. Most importantly, the relationship between you and your relationship. You were able to help each other. The reciprocity is inspirational.

Also, Kathy reminds me of my mom's caregiver, who deserves the Caregiver of the Year Award. It is comforting to know that people as Kathy exists in this world.

Thank you for sharing, Jesse. I hope you are doing well.

What a determined, persevering, and focused young woman your Kathy is. There is no sense of "the world owes me" about her. She is obviously on the road to personal success, not necessarily money-wise, but in terms of knowing how to conduct her life on her own terms. Her honesty will also get her far. The word that came to mind when I read this was 'integrity'. We need more Kathy's in the world. I hope it goes really well for her.

Good for you for supporting her!

Yes, Kathy has integrity and is still working as a caregiver in the building where I live. We do need more Kathy's in this world, I agree. She helped me as much as I helped her so, it worked out nicely for us both!
Thank you for your encouraging and supportive review and for the excellent rating too!
    Have a good Sunday,
