This is lovely. We all have memories of what the journey home is like. For me, I drive past all the wind farms which didn't exist when I was a child. I can see the "big stack" of the smelters in the Port and I know that when I pass this town, home is directly across the sparkling blue waters of Spencer Gulf. That's the difficult part, so near and yet so far. Across the gulf about 30miles or as my journey continues 100 miles to the top of the gulf and another 70 down the other side. Passing by Mambray Creek where we stopped and ate the sandwiches mother had packed and drank from an endless flask of tea. Then onward and upward. I know I'm home when I spy the blast furnace chimney at BHP and I hit the first set of traffic lights. I know I'm home. Thanks for the memories. PM

This free verse, Traveling Back, brings the readers on this trip back to Gram and Grand-pops place where childhood memories still wait to be relived.

Home always brings back certain memories. You painted the picture of what home means to you very well with this poem. I absolutely love the last line!

We can never return to the past and find it the same as we remember it. I wish you a blessed weekend. God bless.

Memories become so poignant as we age... the same memories I ran away from as a young adult, pass through my mind with different meanings, now that I have returned ...much older and wiser on life. I loved your description and thoughtfulness in each word. Smiles, Carol

This is lovely - I enjoyed the thought of your memories being like a well-crafted scarf - which just comes out at certain seasons. It is very nostalgic, filled with detail which brings the scene to life - and then the memories retreat until next needed, like the sun setting for the day, having completed its role. Beautiful.

It's funny - I think for a lot of us (at least myself) we spend our youths trying to escape home only to long for it as adults. Great work here, love the imagery and the image. Thanks for sharing, later daze.

I love nature, and I totally like the descriptions of your homestead. Some words jump to my heart, I just love the sound of "sweetgrass." This is the first time I saw written as a one word. Live and learn, I tell myself. Thank you for the delightful contribution.

Memories are precious. I hope I never get too old to forget them. I am worried about today's children, because they won't have the peaceful memories we grew up with. Thank you for sharing.
