This is a wonderful story about a really great dog. She does sound like a better traveler than most kids. Her lost must have been heartbreaking for all of you. Almost any dog is a chick magnet for a teenage boy. Only one problem: "Though(t) so." I opened. . .

Codi was an Army dog. She blended in and adapted so well. She lived a remarkably long life for a dog, so you can be glad of that. It's strange that we remember our pets like we do people. Funny about Codi being a girl catcher for your son. Well told. I love the humor in this. judi

Hello Barbara,
I'm so glad I kept one six out, just in case a story like this came along. Damn it gal, I was reading about Codi and the vets at the same time I was listening to Doe Eyes, from the Bridges of Madison County. It's hard to read through tears. I so wish dogs lived as long as humans. It doesn't seem fair that such sweet tempered, loyal pets should leave us behind after we've bonded so well. Thanks so much for sharing this gal. We cremated Rigby also. I wasn't going to leave him behind when we moved. He's in a special wooden box in Jan's room. Periodically I run across a picture of him and my heart aches, but that's OK.
Have a blessed evening gal.
Tom

Such a lovely, caring story. Labradors and Golden Retrievers are my favourite dogs. However I only ever owned one dog in his very early days and he wasn't either of the above breeds, probably Begal type.

What a lovely story, Barbara, essentially about Codi and your love of dogs. And clearly that love (or girl magnet as in Greg's case!) was passed on to the boys. I've never had a sensible dog like a labrador, just setters or crazy terriers (or terrorists as we called them) and we seem to have missed out on the kind of attributes you describe. I love the humour here and the fact that you went ahead and bought a dog despite Brian's disapproval and then got creative when he questioned you:) Good for you! Thank you for sharing another entertaining chapter from your experiences as an army wife and mother. Debbie
when (I) accidentally came across...
on some(one) else's property..

Greg's babe magnets.... hahaha that's funny.
We got a dog from a rescue shelter. I think my daughter paid 400 dollars but they spend a lot of money on her and spoiled her.
Her name is muffin and she barks to everybody, except my daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. She was found walking alone in Mexico... close to the border.
She even barks at me and goes crazy, like she is going to bite me. My daughter thinks it's something I'm doing but I'm always nice to her. Maybe she is protecting them. It's really weird. She also barks at anybody and trucks outside. It's weird.
I think it's different when you adopt a poppy that grows with you. But it's not all the time. I adopted a grown American Pit Bull Terrier. He was good to everyone.
Anyway, great chapter. Thank you for sharing your story.

Sorry I have no more extra stars. It is a hard thing to lose a pet through sickness. All dogs and cats have such different personalities, I'm sure The Lord will have a place for them in Heaven. Thanks for another heartwarming story.

My dogs and my son's dogs are treated as our "children." And yes, they are spoiled rotten, but they return the favor in loyalty and love. We've had to put several down, and it's the hardest thing to do. I have had a pet cemetery since I was a young kid at my family home, but when I didn't have a place to bury them, cremation and their urns sit in my hutch designated for mementos from the death of all family members.
"Though so." (Thought)

This brought a tear to my eye, I remember our beautiful natured dog, Buddy, everybody loved him, and he loved everyone else, he was very protective of our cats, and actually went through our front window to chase two terriers who were harassing our cats on the front verandah, he never sustained a scratch, he came to us as a stray puppy who was too young to be taken from his mother, we raised him on puppy milk. But what a cool dog, such a gentle boy. Everyone cried on his last trip to the vets. Well done Barbara, blessings Roy,

Andrew had a football game the day we put Codi down. I didn't tell him until after the game. Thank you for understanding.

This was a wonderful story, and it brought back memories of my own Codi. My Cody was a black Lab and Akida mix. He was one of the best dogs we ever had as well. I was love these stories about your family.
