Excellent poem. I felt lots of emotion in this poem.
Somebody hit him on a lonely highway.
They left him for dead on the side road.

Brett: this poem was a delight to read with its repeating line, "Yes, there is a whole lotta man in that little boy."
It appears that poetry is not what you do most. You wrote this piece like it is an essay or story; capital letter at the beginning of each line and a period at the end. Poetry is not made of building blocks of sentences, it is made up of flowing lines of connecting words with a minimum of punctuation and capitalization. But, just my opinion. Use it, use a part of it or throw it away, LOL. livelylinda

This isn't poetry. It is Country music song lyrics. Thought that was clearly stated on the writing in the notes. Appreciate your comments though.

I can hear the music in my head, beat, softness of wisdom. Lovely. Love Lilibug6's photo, fits so well. I love the way this expresses a man's tender feelings toward a son. So very well written. Thanks for sharing

What an enjoyable write that is so filled with the subjects only country folk seem to think about or even say. This one was a pleasure to read.

What a great message to all -- that boys can be men, can grow up to be better than they ever anticipated, because somebody, somewhere, told them something like this.
I love it.
You captured life inside these few stanzas.
Excellent.

Oh, my, what a beautiful poem and a picture in this poem. The poem has a lot of "beef"(a juicy steak) in it. It is a free verse, littered with rhymes, but beautiful lines of expression that are very noticeable. The emphasis "There's a whole lotta of man in that little boy" with the handsome picture of the boy complements pretty well, the theme. If you read the poem aloud, it would be better. The images and the tone and all, are great Congratulations.

A strong, lyrical poem about loss and redemption. Reading like a story poem, your post pulled me in with its first line and would not release me until I finished. Your words, rhymes, and images from the ball field to the battlefield riveted me. I also enjoyed the narrative arc of growing up that your poem took. Thank you for sharing.

This is an ambitious piece; writing a story through the eyes, mind and voice of a child. It is a profession all of its own. Our poet does it with aplomb. What are the advantages of doing it? We see the world and others with a new, fresh vision. The style is neat and polished and easy to read. Everyone has a story to tell. Try it this way.-Ekim777

I can picture a good quality song if sung by the right person.
An interesting storyline. Powerful words, so full of emotion.
Good work...

From the cradle to the table and some times nothing at all.
You watch him growing with each step and each fall.
He may not be perfect and you won't get along,
but, I'm here to tell you he knows right from wrong.
You can dress him up proper, buy him every new toy,
but, there's a whole lotta man in that little boy.
Yes there is and they say the child makes the man..I think of my son. When he was a boy isaw the glimpse of the man he would become. He is a great man
God bless
