artemis53: Sometimes I inadvertently roll my eyes and shake my head. Am I missing something here or do I need to dance in place like the ballerina in the jewelry box?
G.B. Smith: I miss you terribly get back to me some time
    Bear -

artemis53: I thank all that thought of myself during the hurricane. I will return tonight to work and hope I can keep it together.
Jannypan (Jan) : Thoughts & prayers to you. Thrilled you are safe. -
mrsmajor: So pleased you're okay, our prayers, and thoughts are continuing for all of those that was in harm's way..Blessings! -

artemis53: Well. I think I'm off my chain after what I composed at 3 in the morning. This one ain't gonna be good for the classicists.

artemis53: Oh, my. I finally got my firworks...Kaboom. This one has been quite an arduous trip.
kiwigirl2821: Congrats my friend lol...:) Kiwi -

artemis53: i am exhausted. My Son is searching for flights to see him in Texas before he deploys. I most certainly didn't sign up for this but I'm here and just need to get over it. This is quite a strange world.
TAB_that's me: Prayers for his safety. -
    artemis53: Thank you, Tab. -
kiwigirl2821: Awww he'll be okay Arte. Will keep him in my prayers too! :) xoxo Kiwi -

artemis53: My youngest Son will be deployed for the 3rd time with an initial MOS to Germanny. I must have been extremely STUPID when I marched against Vietnam and for equal rights for women. Perhaps I was just not reading the fine lines. BTW. He knows this song since I was at high school and drove to Kent when after the shootings the guard would still come to campus.

artemis53: I crossed a boundary today, It's not my personal boundary but one set to limit the scope of my writing. I went into politics (OMG, how could you do that) :-0 I've been around the block a few times and can catch what is in the wind so I put my thoughts down (How dare you) ;o Take it or leave it. It's just an opinion and we are free to voice ours on this site, right???
    artemis53: -

artemis53: I must resign myself to the fact that I truly cannot win a ribbon no matter how I try. It's just not in the cards and entering a contest is the kiss of death for me. I'm grateful for my writers ribbon and of course for my trophy on my vanity in my bedroom. Was I born too early or much too late? I wonder.
Dean Kuch: You're not alone there, Diane! -
michaelcahill: Really? That's pretty shocking. You're really a great writer. Enter lots of contests, I'm sure you'll have tons of ribbons. In any case, you'll have lots of great writing in your portfolio. :)) -
Dean Kuch: I gotta feeling she's talking about site sponsored contests, Mikey--the ones voted on by the CEC.
Of course, I could be wrong. I was one, lol... -
Dean Kuch: I gotta feeling she's talking about site sponsored contests, Mikey--the ones voted on by the CEC.
Of course, I could be wrong. I was once, lol... -
michaelcahill: OHHHHH ... site contests. Jeesh. I can't figure those out either. The CEC has nothing to do with those by the way according to Tom. It says so though. LOL
I hear the Anti-Dean, Artemis and Mike Club votes on those.... -
DR DIP: Are contests really worth the grief and disappointment? It's all subjective anyway how they are adjudicated.
As they say, one person's trash is another's treasure.
    -
artemis53: Thanks so much for responding guys. I was feeling like Tom Hanks on an Island. I've noticed a precipitous drop from reviewers of the classic forms or am I just paranoid ;-) Thanks, Mikey for mentioning the triumvirate of yourself, Dean and my 'Cracker' self. The ribbons are pretty but not necessary since I use this site only to vent and validate for myself. I understand, Dip...why put myself through it but it's in my nature to do it every time. I've been at grave sides watching the earth make cracks around a coffin and don't regret it. It's just me. Thanks all of you guys for visiting my profile. Sometimes it's a pretty lonely place to be. BTW, do I sound like a deep Soth Cracker. Yes. We can read ;-D -

artemis53: I am going to be gone (off the radar) for a few days so forgive me if I don't get back to you immediately. I will answer all when I am back. Sorry for the inconveniece!
G.B. Smith: Ain't no problem here. Keep safe & I'll see you when you return
    Bear -

artemis53: Nice version and...I'm already gone...
jlsavell: my favorite song.. I have always loved this song.. -
Dean Kuch: Metallica does a great version of this song as well.

Ask Steve. He was once "tangled up in Blue."

artemis53: Ive always loved this song and know I used it for another poem but that's WAY too tough for me to wander through all of my writings.

    I am Cat: Great song... :) -
    artemis53: Thanks, Cat! -
Dawn Munro: FLOWERS photo BOXFLOWERS-01.gif -

artemis53: The other day I put in a question to the forum re: free (form) verse. Julia and Michael were kind enough to give me some insight. Perhaps it's "Just the Season of the Witch" but all that seems to be coming out of me are these streams of consciousness sometimes held together by a single string but I feel it still counts.
I guess I'm still within parameters but don't think I would be contest material. You really should try it. It's fun and I remember being encouraged by Gungalo to go with it!

Senyai: I had forgotten Donovan, the Scot, altogether! Thanks for this song and the memories, Artemis.

    Senyai -

artemis53:

Can't get over this song from the other night.
Dustybones: What propmted thinking of Dan Fogelberg it's been several years, December 16, 2007, awhile back? I just mentioned him to someone the other day.
Changing horses in the middle of a stream
Gets you wet and sometimes cold
Changing faces in the middle of a dream gets you old

artemis53: Just went to the forum re: Michael Cahill's comment on the 5 trophies for poet and don't see what the problem is by bringing it to 10. Is it exclusivity? "Top Ten" is pretty much a standard. Why only top 5 when the inordinate differences between novelists and poets is so obvious?

I guess this would make the ultimate fairy tale.
G.B. Smith: Have I told you lately how much I admire you? I am of the belief that you are a strong and determined beautiful woman who is awakening to fine herself becoming a true Wordsmith. I love & appreciate your friendship

artemis53: A good morning to all as we gather together on this earth. I am off to the gym and Yoga to start my day. It feels rather good to be back.

flylikeaneagle: my daughter is taking yoga at the university. What is your favorite pose. She likes the candle. -
artemis53: Hmmm. I like the tree and then transitioning into the dancer. I also like the physical challenge of the warrior positions and the comfortable stretch of the pigeon. I'm not familiar with the candle. -
michaelcahill: I like the sit on the edge of my bed typing into the laptop position. I think I have some candles in the desk drawer. Good tip. :) -

artemis53: Back to being a critical care nurse again (nights of course). I wasn't around for a month due to some pretty intensive re-training and will be back sporadically. It is completely different after having the years as a Psych nurse in between. Seems I'm always reading something into a situation. On the other hand, it's easier to just brush some things off. OOOhhhh! Valentine song.
TDLRasmar: Sorry, I'm such a noob. Put my comment in the wrong space. I didn't mean to make light of your difficult times. Let me put it here and please delete the one below.

Pure Prarie League is one of my all time fav groups. Amie is a great tune but have you ever heard Sun Shines Brightly? wow, I like it just as much, maybe even more even though it wasn't nearly as popular as Amie or Two Lane Highway. -
TDLRasmar: P.S. Fade Away is top shelf too. My guess is you may even like it the best, based on the few of your writings I have read/ -

artemis53: My last poem is called "Contemplation." This year was not the easiest for me and life seemed to be "slapping me around quite a bit" never quite knowing when the next shoe would drop. I have been blessed with a friend of over 20 years who has seen it all and is a wonderful listener. After the last difficult incident, I finally said to her that I've known worse. She agreed with me. I guess that's what the poem is about. I could only make it through the present times of hell and quite honestly, injustice if I hadn't been through the fires before.
Aussie: Hey, c'mon don't trip over your bottom lip. You have loads of FS friends here. Life is meant to be lived and you can be yourself, simple, kind, and unpretending. Love, Kace. -

artemis53: Let's not forget!

artemis53: Just had to post this. You forget how beautifully aligned The Beach Boys voices were. I found this one A Capella and it's a stunning example of their precision. I think that Brian Wilson and Mike Love (cousins) are the only one's left. Thing is, Brian kinda left a long time ago.

Sally Carter: What an interesting version. Never heard it acapella before. Great song! I heard them live on our TV recently. A bit sad. I think it's time to stop. -
Sarkems: I thought they were all dead -
Sally Carter: Oh Emsey, lol. No, not all of them. But like all of us, not quite the singers they were I fear. -
livelylinda: It sent a chill up and down my spine listening to the voices of teen years which we will never hear again. The Beach Boys were such a part of the 60's. . . -

artemis53: Something to think about...

bossladyone: I had t stop it I can't watch it. It hurt too much -
artemis53: I understand, precisely. The mistakes are olayed over and over. -
Brian Terry: I'm not sure about the mistakes. I was in the Royal Army Medical Corps in Korea and the urgency was to get the wounded out of further danger.
The needs under combat are quite different the civilian life.
A very moving DVD It brought it all back to me -

artemis53: Still so relative today!
artemis53: i believe that it's the writers responsibility to deliver a message to the writer without a lexicon. I also agree that a thread must be woven for a connection. I don't write for poets. I write for readers. When there are so many similes and metaphors that a person cannot sit down and enjoy a poem w/o wracking his or her brain, I believe that is the fault of a writer. Why would I buy a book that I don't understand. -
Cobalt Blue: Yes, no doubt. I can't remember the last time I was at Barnes and Noble and I bought a book on quantum physics or a novel written in Hindi. It wouldn't make much sense as I wouldn't understand any of it. But I did buy a book of poetry by Dylan Thomas. I don't understand him at all. Very heavy going there. I just don't get him. But clearly he is a poet of note. Likewise I do read a lot of Rimbaud. I have read The Drunken Boat hundreds of times. I still don't get it enough to say I grasp it. Yet each time I read it I pull more from it. It is a matter of learning. Many of Rimbaud's Illuminations are an enigma to me. One must wrack his brain to understand them. They are not obvious. They are a challenge. But if one does put the time and effort in one may come to an appreciation of work that is in the realm of genius for its beauty and simplicity. Likewise, Mr Dylan wrote many different types of poetry. Times They Are A Changin' is rather basic straightforward stuff. The Gates of Eden or Desolation Row are not so easy to grasp. Sad eyed Lady of the Lowlands, which is a brilliant piece, really doesn't make sense in a coventional way. It is a series of images that leaves in totality an impression upon the listener or reader. A lot of people will not understand that but it is very much worth the effort to spend the time trying. -
Cobalt Blue: Well, now what I wrote makes no sense. I guess that isn't the first time. -
squid152: Cobalt Blue. Why are you still here? -
squid152: Well so many think this song is a Hendrix song.

    -
Nhala: Times they ARE a changin'! Will be reading again soon, I trust you are well Lady *bow* keep spreading the good word <3 , Byron Nhala -

artemis53: My Father came from a Catholic, European background being first born generation in the United States. He kept to his chosen faith and never held it against me when I broke away. He was in his last year when Pope John Paul died and we watched much of the television coverage together. When I told him who the new pope was, he shook his head and said "They're being too careful."
That scene came to mind as I was reading this article today. I am very strong in my personal Faith and absolutely believe in the words of this Cardinal. Too bad the bureaucrats in Rome didn't give him the chance.

In final interview, liberal Cardinal says Church '200 years out of date'
"The Church must admit its mistakes and begin a radical change," said Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini two weeks before his death

ROME (Reuters) - The former archbishop of Milan and papal candidate Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini said the Catholic Church as "200 years out of date" in his final interview before his death, published on Saturday.

Martini, once favored by Vatican progressives to succeed Pope John Paul II and a prominent voice in the church until his death at the age of 85 on Friday, gave a scathing portrayal of a pompous and bureaucratic church failing to move with the times.

"Our culture has aged, our churches are big and empty and the church bureaucracy rises up, our rituals and our cassocks are pompous," Martini said in the interview published in Italian daily Corriere della Sera.

"The Church must admit its mistakes and begin a radical change, starting from the pope and the bishops. The pedophilia scandals oblige us to take a journey of transformation," he said in the interview.

In the last decade the Church has been accused of failing to fully address a series of child abuse scandals which have undermined its status as a moral arbiter, though it has paid many millions in compensation settlements worldwide.

Martini, famous for comments that the use of condoms could be acceptable in some cases, told interviewers the Church should open up to new kinds of families or risk losing its flock.

"A woman is abandoned by her husband and finds a new companion to look after her and her children. A second love succeeds. If this family is discriminated against, not just the mother will be cut off but also her children."
In this way "the Church loses the future generation", Martini said in the interview, made a fortnight before he died. The Vatican opposes divorce and forbids contraception in favor of fidelity within marriage and abstinence without.

A liberal voice in the church, Martini's chances of becoming pope were damaged when he revealed he was suffering from a rare form of Parkinson's disease and he retired in 2002.

Pope John Paul II was instead succeeded in 2005 by Pope Benedict XVI, a hero of Catholic conservatives who is known by such critical epithets as "God's rottweiler" because of his stern stand on theological issues.

Martini's final message to Pope Benedict was to begin a shake up of the Catholic church without delay.

"The church is 200 years out of date. Why don't we rouse ourselves? Are we afraid?"

Martini was much loved and thousands paid their respects at his coffin in Milan cathedral on Saturday.
The church doesn't need a "rottweiler." They need to open their gates and let the people back in.
donaldww: I hope there are others with Martini's vision in the Church. I agree with his sentiments. -
redrider6612: The church should be open to all sinners. After all, if only the truly perfect were allowed in, they would be completely empty. -
Lady & Louis: So true. JP II was conservative enough but Benedict - well, what's to be expected from the former head of the Roman Inquisition (which is what the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is; it just changed its name). Protect the criminals and hound anyone who doesn't fit their very narrow view of what's an acceptable human being, is his method. Even suggesting it would be a good idea to discuss the ordination of women has got a priest thrown out, here in Australia. -
DIS-illusioned: And the intriguing saga of the Christian Church--Roman Catholic et al--continues ...
    :) -
Bicpen: "Gods Rottwieller" was actualy a member of Hitlers youth if I have my facts right. I prefer Gods rottwieller to his bidding...SATAN.

    -
    N.K. Wagner: -
N.K. Wagner: It's probably better if I say something before saving it - well, maybe not. :D We confuse the Faith with the Church. Lack of change has gone from a refusal to be swayed by "fads" to a refusal to be swayed. period. Stasis is comfortable. -
artemis53: Absolutely. Even though persons are in abusive relationships they stay. It is because it is familiar. -

artemis53: I am behind on my reviews and will get to them as quickly as I can. Once more, I have painted myself into a corner with my multi-tasking and will have one free day for reviews on Sunday.
    DIS-illusioned: "... I have painted myself into a corner ..."
So, what hues helmed you in? :) -
nor84: I believe, DIS, that the word you meant was "hemmed" as in What hues hemmed you in? -
    DIS-illusioned: ... No, I'll go with 'helmed'; I adore spags. :) -
Lady & Louis: Spag bolognese? -

artemis53: S saw them in concert and brilliant is not close enough to the word that could be used for their performance. I love this song of looking and knowing there IS someone out there, Just open your mind!

Sally Carter: I had forgotten about the Moody Blues! Great sound, excellent song. Thanks for sharing this one. -
Grammies: Thanks so much. What great music and great memories I have. -
Celtic~Soul: I've seen them in concert about five times. Can't ever get enough. They're still brilliant! -
fluffnstuff: Oh what a beautiful lady you are. The words to the moodyblues albulms, dan folgelberg and kenny loggins brought many changes and inner revelations for me. I saw Judt Collins last year, the MBlues twice and had the pleasure of Neil Diamond night before last. At 71, he still took my breath away. Thanks for sharing your "heartlight" with us Artemis. DiAnne -
nhinchliff: This is really nice. Thanks for posting it. I enjoyed listening. -

artemis53: Well, "Rhyming" received an "All Time Best." I most certainly wasn't sure of that one. What I really need is a vacation.

artemis53: What a relief to write and put out that poem called "Rhyming." I swear I've been beside my self lately hitting just the right notes and keeping within the framing. It felt so good to just be free and carefree, kinda Southern Style ;)

squid152: I have this whole concert on video. The Old Grey whistle test was a great series that featured many great bands. I think I was in 7th grade when this one came out. All us cool kids used to listen to Lynard and wear shirts that said Disco Sucks. And then the stupid school outlawed the shirts because they thought the word "sucks" was offensive. -
    artemis53: I remember that Tshirt! -
    squid152: -
Spike the second: Now you are on my wavelength.

The best ever group in the world. Freddie was the ultimate entertainer.

    Top notch music! -

artemis53: I am a bit upset regarding the reactions to my write, "What God Does Not." As a rule I have ALWAYS let the reader interpret the poem. I've read enough reviews that I could see a pattern appearing in which the readers were setting up battle lines (subtly).
For the first time I put a very clear plea to read the author's notes first. I have set down concrete statements as what the poem is and is not. Remember that many parts of writing are metaphorical and what one sees may not necessarily the correct interpretation.
DIS-illusioned: Perhaps, the title of 'What God Does'--without the 'Not'--would be more appealing? :)
But, seriously, (unfortunately?) readers will interpret as they like. You can write a poem/story titled 'My Dear Mother'--and clearly state that it is about your mother--but some readers will see a stray, malnourished cat in it ... Oh well! :-/ -
Sarkems: I feel I should bring Roland Barthes' "Death of the Author" in here. He theorises that when a writer completes his work, he gives it to the reader. His intentions then cease to be relevant. The work belongs to the reader and they play their own part in the creative process by interpreting it. I doubt very much that most of the authors I studied for examinations imagined that their work was really about the feminist condition, or whatever, but that may well be how it is studied. It's annoying to be misunderstood, but it happens. Readers can see things in your work that may be there in your subconscious. Obviously if you get a lot of negative feedback that would be a concern, but so far as I could see, you haven't for this piece. -
artemis53: I was starting to see the very first sign in which people could use my words to gratify their own interpretations ( it doesn't matter whether I like their opinion or not). I have always believed that once I write something it's done and can be taken into the reader as a personal interpretation. I just didn't like what was going on and put my notes in so others couldn't use it to cause any discord. It was very veiled but I know well professionally how people can gather up speed and hell can break loose. -
squid152: I was watching on the news about some deaths in Afganistan. I hope your sons are ok. I have a a friend still there. I am going to pray. -
Harlequin: I think that is a great poem and I enjoyed it... but you know that already. ;-)

I have to agree with DIS-Illusioned. There always going to be reviewers that are just going for the 'prize' and treat this amazing website as some egg hunt game. Lol. Don't take any notice, Diane. You are great and we love you! :-) -
kiwigirl2821: No one asked and I'm not sure I've read the piece mentioned but will after I've said what I think on this one. Not much moves me to butt in with a comment but regardless of what you have titled this piece it should remain as you have seen it. I like emsey's POV as it's true isn't it. When we write and we have finished we should let the readers have it. But Arte you should also stick to the truth in the original thought regardless of what your reader thinks. Some people who have passion about God or how they worship look for a platform to voice their resolve on something that is important to them. It doesn't mean whatever you write suddenly becomes invalid because it doesn't. In some ways you have created a free flowing platform for discussion. Whatever you wrote and however you wrote it, if it is right for you then it is right and let readers feel as they need to ... Loving what you are and what you do is every bit as important as the debate that follows ... love and hugs, deborah aka Kiwi! -
nhinchliff: Love the conversation and particularly info from Roland Barthe, with whom I'm very familiar. -

artemis53: 'Don't cry, don't raise your eye. It's only teenage wasteland!"

DIS-illusioned: Huh?! If I can't cry, or even raise my eye, then I feel like it's prison.
    :) -
artemis53: No, Dis. They're breaking away from it. -
squid152: Who's Next was a classic. We used to this song over and over on a crappy turntable. We wore it out. I still got the album on vynal. Great days. -

artemis53: I can't believe I missed this one.

The children are sitting
At peace on the lawn
While havoc rains down
Before sun brings the dawn.

A country of freedom
Torn clearly apart
For battles still raging
Held deep in each heart

For which one will say
Who's to win or to lose
In this newest of eras
They don the same shoes.

Stand with me Lord for I may stumble and Fall.

squid152: Well I would like to tell you I was at this concert but I think I was only about four or five when woodstock happened. My parents didn't go to Woodstook. They voted for Nixon. Hey, what can I say? -

artemis53: Just got this from a friend, Red Skelton was a comedian who started in Vaudeville and was one of the few that survived to make it onto TV. He always came up with characters that he would take on during his show and he was very popular with my parent's generation. Since today is Independence Day, I'm posting this because I CAN!

artemis53: I also loved this one in the morning by Joni. The "Ladies of the Canyon" is one of my favorite compositions by her.

artemis53: Woke up this morning and it was beautiful. I've had "Chelsea Morning" going through my head for hours! I do believe that Chelsea Clinton was named after this song but Hillary will have to verify that ;)

artemis53: I have been back and forth between two houses trying to make it through the flood waters to to 'dog sit' for my best friends. I will finish the poem to my parents when I get back to the other computer in an hour (it was inadvertently posted before I was finished with it). I have put off writing on this subject because it is still so painful to me and I loved spending time with them after quite a fiery youth (Am just like my Mother). If you care, I wrote a short story on this site called "Planting Cannas" when I first came here. It is about my Father's last year of life in which I had the privilege of being with Him. Mother held on but was gone a few years after progressing into dementia. I was blessed because she always recognized me up until she passed.
    misscookie:
my prayers are with you your family friend and other. I'm sorry about the passing of your love ones.
I still trying to learn the systen thats why I;'n reponsing to you so late. until next time.Miss coomie. -

artemis53: I just had to post this remastered version of Grace Slick at Woodstock. Is it exactly like the recorded version? No. Of course she was up all night and probably pretty blown away but never missed a beat or flattened a note that morning.

artemis53: My sister and brother introduced me early on to Peter, Paul and Mary. I was too little and antsy to sit and listen to their songs but learned them flawlessly and we all sang them together in harmony. Years later, this song was written. To this day i think that it's one of the best songs that can ever be played at a wedding. Paul Stookey leads the stage.

artemis53: This is Judy's version. it's all in the voice.

Lady & Louis: Oh, the beautiful Mr Harrison! :) -
    Bojenn: Thumbs UP
    -
gifted$1: Just saw your new profile pic..Like it so much! Beautiful! :) -
Maureen's Pen: Hey new pic, lovely:) Hugs -

artemis53: This song is very special in my family. Not only did we sing and play it when we were young but it became a part of celebrations from weddings to anniversaries. It sums up a lot about life and we've lost some along the way but, there still here. This is the Beatles version obviously. I am also going to post the version by Judy Collins in her beautiful voice.

artemis53: I knew that posting my last poem about the South in the actual dialect would be controversial. The written word is not the spoken word. I have an acute precision with English if need be and can be as erudite as the next but that is a choice. My piece was written in the thickest of the vernacular that is not used all of the time here. Rather, we have a softer sound to our words than many but can hop right into those thick, yet clipped words whenever the situation warrants. It is about simplicity, courtesy and a well honed respect for consideration that can be found in all small towns within this country.
Lady & Louis: Writing in dialect is always tricky - the balance between capturing the sound and making it intelligible to outsiders is an art in itself. -
Linda England Bonam: I thought you did a swell job of it, Diane!!~ -
Harlequin: I enjoyed it a great deal too! :-) -
kiwigirl2821: You are a nice woman Arte. I am from the south in the United States, and listening in my ear what I was reading, felt like home. Doesn't matter what others thought that didn't get it...You did a wonderful job! xoxo -
Maureen's Pen: I agree, I loved it:) Hugs
    -
squid152: You don't know much i love this song. It took me lifetime to understand it.-Gary -
squid152: In my life, I love you more...... -

artemis53: This is a long video but Lynard Skynard has been an amazing band having reformed after many were killed in a plane crash. They gathered members from other bands and found a renewal. One of the lead guitarists was from "The Outlaws" and name was Huey. He lived in my little town and was the neighbor of a close friend and I saw him often at friends or even shopping at the grocery store. this is my favorite song from them.

Linda England Bonam: OMG... I love this band! They performed at Carb Day at the Indy 500, but I had already seen them three times before! My sis and bro in law went and had a great time! -
kiwigirl2821: I saw Lynard Skynard the day before he was killed in a plane accident. His concert was amazing. Good stuff! -
Jaxpoet: HAIRS UP ON MY NECK THIS IS OUT FREAKING RAGIOUS -
squid152: Now I have heard it again. Saw them live in the early 80's I think. Now I gotta write it. I am running out out of paper.-Gary -

artemis53: This is the original of Stevie Nicks in concert. Towards the end you can see the guitarist "tear up." My eldest son said this song reminded him of me and how much he loved it. I'm really not that surprised. At his wedding, the song that I chose for our dance was Lynard Skynards "Simple Kind of Man."

DIS-illusioned: Nice song. Yeah, I could tell that guitarist was really feeling it. -

artemis53: Now that I'm on the subject of today's women in music I'll say that I love the Dixie Chicks with their purest of harmonies. They are the ONLY one's that can get close to the feelings in Stevie Nicks' "Landslide." This may have an add on it but wait it out. It's well worth it.

LateBloomer: The Dixie Chicks version of this song is a favorite of mine. It's one of my summertime by the pool songs. Thanks for sharing. -

artemis53: Tracy Chapman is one of the most deep hearts of music that I've seen come out in the millennium. "Finally the tables are starting to turn...talking about a Revolution." And the line "Crying at those doors of the Army of Salvation." Her songs are deeply rooted in the '60's of change, revolution, hope and despair.

Celtic~Soul: Tracy Chapman is a musical gem. Whenever one of her songs comes on the radio, the volume gets turned up (so no one can hear me singing along!). -
Larissa B: Ohhhh! loved her....I wonder why she doesn't have a new album anymore? Someone who sings about stuff w/ substance, definitely a rare gem in an industry filled with junk w/c make platinum....:( -
artemis53: maybe she is too controversial for the record companies to touch her. with all of the crap that's coming out she doesn't fit their mold. -
squid152: You see there is talent and then there is genious.-Gary -

artemis53: This is another version. I recognize many of the picture from my picture library. I will be getting all of those cd's by these women. Phenomenal and humbling!

artemis53: Did some searching on my Mother's side of the family (the crazy Irish side) and found her surname to go back to the earliest areas of Celtic civilization in County Sligo. It made sense since County Mayo is a part of that area and my grandfather's family came from there. seems that the family was pretty powerful (probably a bunch of brigands) and held the County Seat (manor) since ancient times (Sounds like savages to me). The family name was associated with the descendents of a Niall who was supposed to be "One of the nine hostages" (need some clarification here). Niall was the 4th century High King of Ireland so I guess that I'm duly impressed. Got the info from a genealogy site. Even though my Grandfather was born at the turn of the 20th century, he was an impressive height of 6'3" and my Mother was 5'5" when most women were 5"2" at the max so I figure that my ancestors must've been pretty, darned big (and probably ruthless). The family motto is roughly translated into an honor for their land.
I guess that's where I get the warrior princess themes in my poems. This song is So incredible by the Celtic Women of Song and called "The Voice." It's a fantastic presentation.

donaldww: This is super, 'I am the voice.'

I'm a watered down Irishman myself -- from the malarkey side of the family. Some came through Ellis Island (NYC), others through Port Hope (Canada).

    Thanks for sharing!
    -
    donaldww: -
squid152: I listen to the voice
    Just out of choice
    it is a new dawn.
    -
FREE-ONE: I like this, it is beautiful and haunting...almost sounds ritualistic -

artemis53: Grace Slick was not the first female singer in Jefferson Airplane but she was the right one. Her voice was powerful and commanded attention...and she got it. This clip is from morning at Woodstock and "Somebody to Love." This one she was out of control with but simmered down into her mystical place by the time it came to do "White Rabbit."

artemis53: This I believe was from "Gaucho" an amazing album by Steely Dan. "Time out of Mind" was a 'driving song' for me. Top down and wind in my hair blasting out the words, my right hand in the air and singing "Tonight we might touch the Dragon." Yep. And that silver DID turn to gold. This isn't the best video but I wanted to hear each precious word.

squid152: I was just walkin' in the centerfold
    Taking pictures of the sky
    Lookin eye to eye
    Watching the verse
    Unrehehearsed
    I can't chase the dragon
It shows up at my door
Shows me what the hole is for
    Imagine that
    An aristrocrat
Wouldn't want the doctor to sew it up'

    Been smilin' at the sky
    Get dizzy as I fly
    Listening to a friend
    As my mind bends... -
Nhala: wow, amazing stuff here. Will be back soon. -

artemis53: One of my favorite bands was "Steely Dan." I believe I still had everything they made. I've chosen "Babylon Sisters' because it's not as well known as "Deacon Blues. Aja or Katy Lied." There songs always were about missing that one chance, always coming in second place or how do we get ourselves out of this one. their musicians were always flawless!

Sally Carter: Amazing vocals as well. It's not particularly my thing, but I really enjoy exploring the things that other people recommend! Thanks for this one. -
artemis53: There words were always about either being a loser or just tentatively holding on. -
squid152: Live Steely is not easy to find. They didn't play live that much. They didn't want to compromise their studio sound. This one is good. It is like the axe meeting the sax. You know I gotta write now and go wake up my neighbor so I can shake it a bit. I will post soon.-Gary -

artemis53: Janis Ian was another one of those strong spirits in the '70's. She put down a different side that wasn't about love. It was about insecurities and societal hierarchies that left many in personal turmoil. This is the best video of this song that I've seen. "At Seventeen" was a touchstone for many.

Sally Carter: I've always liked this song, but never seen footage of the performer. Such an ageless voice. I had never imagined what she looked like. I must check out more of what she's done. A writer too, I see from the captions? Beautiful accompaniment as well. Thank you! -

artemis53: Once more I'll go onto the strong women of music. Joan Baez actually took Bob Dylan under her wing and helped to promote him. "Diamonds and Rust" is one of the most phenomenal 'break-up' songs ever written..."speaking strictly for me we both could've died then and there" speaks volumes. She still lives in California, one of the original "Ladies of the Canyon."

    Sally Carter: Wonderful! -
Bellydanser: I got to see her in concert about 5 years ago. A little more rust in the voice, but it was a 'gem' of an experience. -

artemis53: This is the full version of what we know is "Find the Cost of Freedom" Which is "Daylight Again". Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young could put gems down that brought you to your knees. Many songs of this type were from the Civil War and different versions can be found to this day.

Sally Carter: Great! Thanks for sharing this. Must get to Spotify and remind myself what else they have done. I love these little clips that people post. -
Realist101: Hi there! I missed that you were recognized!! SO sorry...Congratulations!! Please forgive me? I'm a turtle. Susan -
artemis53: No problem, Realist. I was totally taken by surprise on that one since I don't write for awards. i've been trying to post more and more of my music and philosophy to get that red ribbon down further on the page. -

artemis53: Over 15 years after the fact, I wrote my 6,000 words on the shootings at Kent State University. I also traveled to the campus and could still see the bullet hole in the sculpture outside of Taylor Hall, the College of Architecture. The campus is beautiful with proud sandstone buildings set on rolling hills with sidewalks lined by lilacs. If history is forgotten, this can happen again. The bars on Water street off campus still kept this song on it. I wonder if it's played anymore or even there still.

artemis53: I have this as an illuminated lithograph from the early twentieth century in the original frame with the copyright of 1910 by Doubleday. I'd often read it to my sons but also for myself to keep perspective. It still stands today as far as I'm concerned.

Rudyard Kipling
If

If

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!
Joy Graham: This was nice artemis :) -
artemis53: Thanks, Joy. I love this poem. -
mytree: i love this poem -
hollyinvesuvianite: I just had my comment sent to you prematurely. i wanted to end that your piece was beautiful and perfect to me. Holly -

artemis53: Though this song was attributed to 'The Sparrow', Judy Collins," it was penned by Sandy Denny from "Fairport Convention." This is her own accoustic version. I'll put up Judy later on.

artemis53: I don't know how many know of Phoebe Snow but just listen to her!
TXOxxxooo: Ohy Artemis, I should not be surprised...
I LOVE (((((Pheobe Snow and this is my favorite song...from when I was 15 or less...hmmmm that's when I listened to it the most)))))and your other video postings bring me back....home...YEAH!!!..we tried to to tell it like it was when it was happening and nobody LISTENED! NOW the same and everybody acts like THEIR SURPRISED ... that OUR country could act like THIS! Frankly I am surprised it took them this long to show the colors they revealed back then! Anyhoo...I have faith and hope that defies all rational analysis, because I believe wholeheartedly in the INFINITE power of LOVE & CONNECTION :) -

artemis53: always talk about strong women. It's time for me to put down a few ;)

artemis53:
artemis53: More to come of my endless summers that I keep in my heart. -
    Crackerberries: Awesome. -
artemis53: Thanks, Cracker. I'm gonna put up more since I'm really in the mood ;) -
Celtic~Soul: I LOVE this song. Brings back fond memories of a night in college: hot-looking Italian man, chilled Mateuse, this song (whole album really). Sigh... -
artemis53: I can't even come close to saying what I was doing or where I was going with CSN. -

artemis53: I'm just going to put something down here so that the ribbon doesn't keep jumping off of the page at me ;)

Cumbrianlass: Copy and paste the embed link, then refresh your page. Should work!. :o) -
fairydancer: Go to youtube and find a vid you want. Click the "SHARE" tab, found under the vid you want, then "EMBED". Now copy and paste [Ctrl + C, Ctrl+ V] the code (that appears under the "EMBED" tab) into your profile page comment box and click "SHARE." You will find that some vids do not have embed codes though. artemis53: An icon that one can always find their soul within. Joni Mitchell.

artemis53: Today was exquisite with a warm, intermittent breeze blowing and the Florida sky a vivid blue. I took my camera and went searching for the architectural personalities of my quaint, southern, antebellum town. The light was on my side and I walked from brick street to brick street allowing the warmth of the sun to caress my shoulders and the glory of those cherished edifices to fill my lens. The day was productive and only reinforced the love of this place that I am privileged to call home.
shelley kaye: same in cali - clear blue sky with a cool wind blowing christmas wishes to all :)

I'm not really sure.
I seem to disappear and reappear like a rabbit out of a hat but note-that is a 'White Rabbit' watching "the Red Queen on her head." I am a bit 'dark' at this moment right now having gone through the upheaval of too much loss within too short of a time. I work through my grief by writing so I'm grateful for this site. Life is what I make of it and am still fine tuning more than one aspect in my earthly interlude. I invite you to call me 'Arte.' It has a 'chummy' sound to it and if one can count their true friends on one hand near the end, their life has been blessed;)
I no longer wish to be 'Anyone' or 'Anything' special. I just would be pleased to put down my thoughts. Through perspective, not only do you heal but bloom, until the last petal is picked and your wish is blown upon the wind.
