Very wise was your mother. Sometimes it doesn't matter how much sugar you add. A rancid piece of fruit is still rancid. This was a loving and gentle reminder that we all will face both good and bad times. Sometimes it's a minor inconvenience and other times it's a traumatic blow. Great poem to read this morning. Gretchen, besides the fact that you are so kind and sweet , I love the fact that you are so perceptive. You always have the ability to pick out the lines that are only suggestive and read between them. For that reason, I had to rewrite much of my poem to make it self explanatory for some. Thank you so much for that, for your awesome review and comments and for your generous gift of six stars. What a great whole package review! Hugs!

Your mother was a wise woman. There are lemons, and there are lemons. Some are very bitter. Like people. Choose wisely and make the best lemonade possible. I like Meyer lemons. Just the right amount of tartness...

Some insightful wisdom here in these words Debi! I always liked the saying, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!" Definitely seeing the positive side of life is key and not letting ourselves become soured or bitter. A cleverly constructed poem.

Aww, come on, no booze, lol?!

Seriously, I read this once as a poem about lemons, and the second time as a poem about people and life. Reading a little between the lines . . .

You've done a good job with this one, Debi. Now, I think I'll go make lemonade:-)

xx

Pam, I thank you so very much! You are so sweet that you could sweeten the sourest lemonade. Of course I won't deny my twin the booze. And after a little tequila, who cares how sour they are. Lol!

I was with you until the end... Sometimes when life gives me lemons I really just want to find the other two people I need...the one with the Tequila and the one with the salt: Lemon Margaritas won't make the world sunshiny and new -- but you won't care nearly as much about the sour days!

Seriously cute poem. We've all had these days, and it's use it, or lose it and forget about the squirt in the eye!

I saw this quote and I thought it was kind of fun to share:

"As you go about your daily life, you will encounter many lemons. Sour expressions, sour attitudes, sour auras! The good thing is that if you don't want to be a lemon, you don't have to be! Just don't let those lemons rub themselves all over you! And you don't even have to save them! Let lemons be lemons! One of the most important things that I have ever learned is that I don't have to save people." -C. JoyBell

Also? Befriend a dyslexic person and with a little twist you can be a MELON!

LOL.

Karenina, I thank you so very much! You are so sweet that you could sweeten the sourest lemonade, and with a little tequila, we can sing, get by with a little help from my friend, and cha cha cha. Try doing all that with a Melon, Thelma!

This is great advice, Debi. Whether is lemons in life or even lemons in reviews here, we don't have to accept them all. But I loved:
" sweeten it with honesty, and here's a few more do's
Serve with a clear conscience,"
Loved that you used your mom's wise advice for this poem!

Wow, this is truly original, Debi, and here I thought all lemons were created equal!
Then again, this poem might be metaphorical. Whatever it is, I found it VERY interesting! Thank you for sharing!

Your mother was right- there are differences in lemons, and some are perfect for making lemonade, while others are best just rejected, as in life and re people. Interesting and thought- provoking poem, and well written.

The author's words are engaging, descriptive and creative. I found these
words to be an interesting topic. Thank you for the author's notes - the
history is always helpful in reading a poem! I liked how the author uses
the lemons to describe other aspects of one's life! The artwork is awesome! Hi Deb, Happy New Year to you and your family!....Maria
