I know what Trump is like so didn't watch it, Biden is no better. However, I will stay in the US with Trump as my Pres. People have no idea of all he has done for this country as it is never reported on. The press is like a 3yr old who runs to mommy to tattle every time he does or says something they don't like. I wish he had more decorum, but he isn't a politician, he's a boardroom brawler and I'll take him any day over politicians who have been in office for years and never do a thing. He did more in his first 100 days then most do in 8yrs. Yes, he does and says dumb things, but it's all he has done for this country that counts. =} A well written article even if I don't agree with all of it. =]

Yes the debate was a debaccle, but it takes two to tango. Why didn't you mention Biden's disrespect for the President. The names he called him
especially "clown". Where does that land on your rating. It isn't Trump causing the riots in Portland and other US cities, it's the Democratic Mayors who are not allowing the Federal Government to help. The superficial news being disbursed is misinformation.

Trump was needling Biden so bad i'm not at all surprised he reacted disappointingly. Bullies should inspire a negative reaction. It was making me angry at home watching the TV at how Trump was not respecting the rules of the debate.
The rioting is happening as a response to built up frustration with bad management... Federal help will probably mean sending in the armed forces to shoot demonstrators which will cause more trouble. Your man is the wrong man. I can't say i know much about Biden, but I've been watching and reading a lot about Trump from various sources and I will never understand how such an unethical ignorant egotistical man can appeal to intelligent people.
Thank you for reviewing even though our politics are opposite.

Thanks for reviewing my reaction to the debate. I was taught that respect has to be earned. Yes, it makes sense to be trained to respect the highest office and a position of authority should be held in esteem because the assumption would be that the person in that position has earned respect on his way to that position. I see nothing about Trump to admire or respect. I listen to a lot of what he says, and watch him at press conferences to try and understand why he has such a strong following, and it beats me. I see nothing but a nasty, unethical egotist who has done dodgy deals, avoided paying taxes, and uses attack to undermine people.
I admire your patriotism and respect it. Everyone should love their own country, not do things that make it tear apart.

It was disappointing when Biden started name calling as well, but I could feel how angry I was getting myself (I was shouting at the TV), so I can understand how needled he was getting... which obviously was Trump's aim, rather than having a genuine debate in a civilized manner.

I was gobsmacked however, that Biden allowed this arsehole to rile him and lower his own standard of decency and sence of decorum.
By the sounds of it, NZ will be inundated with new home buyers soon...
A well written essay and a big thumbs up to your current leader Jacinda Ardern, and the representative of the opposition party, Judith Collins as they each debated with level headedness and consideration for one another. You must be very proud, I know I would be.

Truthfully, New Zealand does look tempting. I do not think the US has ever had so many Americans thinking of leaving. If I were younger, I would be in New Zealand in a heartbeat.

I've met with folks from your government on several occasions as we are trying to replicate your system of universal nurse home visiting for new parent (I believe the nurses are referred to as "Plunkett Nurses" in your country).
I agree that that debate in particular, and our president in general, is an embarrassment. I would leave Chicago tomorrow but I'm not sure I'd be able to find good pizza anywhere else.
Anyway, I hope your country will continue to be an example of what civilization could be like - we used to think we were that example.

I remember Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbin debating and it was fruitless, but I have seen some lively debates in my own household which have been much more entertaining! The odd thing is that people are persuaded by these debates! There are people who are indecisive about their vote and therefore they vote on a whim and ignore the facts. If you are thinking of emigrating, I wouldn't advise coming to the DK (the Disunited Kingdom). There are some bizarre characters in charge here. Large chunks of the country are locked down and the prison hulk idea is being suggested for immigrants.
