It was a nice summary that was informative. Thanks for the information. I did wonder what was going on.
I noticed one place that would need a comma, as far as I know.
{Needless to say, I ended up with the bad cold too.} I believe there should be a comma between COLD and TOO.
Other than that I found nothing of note.

I wondered where you had been. Colds are contagious, as are grandchildren. But, I am sure you will be up and about in no time.
It is difficult rating an post 'excellent' when the party writing is reporting that they are ill, but I assume you will read it as 'get well soon'.
