I love fresh corn on the cob. It's a shame it only lasts a few months. Farming is a lost trade, as around where we live it was a bumper crop and now I cannot think of anyone tilling the earth. It's all about beef and horses.

A pensive, thoughtful, yet optimistic poem.
It brings a smile to my face as it reminds me of one of many delightful lines from one of my favourite movies, Being There:
"As long as the roots are not severed, all is well. And all will be well in the garden."

Farmers have tough lives. Sometime when everything goes awry their crops fail and it is depressing . Their hopes are buried in the mulch .But then comes a new season fresh hopes.. I liked the way you juxtaposed a corn field and human emotions!

i liked this poem about plants and sturdy roots deep into the ground. I noticed the formating was a bit off - did you mean to break it after ten lines or so of text? see mt earlier comments I would have broken it into stanza breaks after four maybe five lines. easier for the reader to follow

Your poem is so powerful! I love how you use the a cornfield to show deep emotions! This is so creative. I could really feel the sadness in the beginning - but that ending brought so much hope. The idea of sturdy roots staying strong was such a great way to wrap it up! Your poem is full of meaning - really well done!

Pam, I appreciate your notes. My husband has a degree in agriculture and we both worked in our local Farmers Home Administration many years ago. He made the loans, and I closed them. So, I can relate to so much of this poem, but your notes helped me to understand more. love and blessings, Teri

At first when I was reading it I thought perhaps the man had the early stages of Alzheimers. Interesting poem, well written and smooth flowing. Leaving each reader to define what it means. Thanks for sharing.
