I feel like I read something very similar to this, maybe Wendy wrote it?
I'm always surprised by how much our government asks of our men and women in uniform (and their families), but can do so little in return.
I would have taken that woman who helped you with your finance questions (or didn't) out back and given her a good whoopin'! Good grief.
Thanks for sharing.

LOL She deserved a good whoopin'. I have a feeling once the senator got involved, she got worse than that. LOL Thank you for the support.

Military life has to be difficult, especially for spouses and family members. Being uprooted in an instant with little to no notice. Crazy! I had to laugh over this comment, sorry. "Besides what did my husband buy, a camel?"
What a pain in the butt this must have been. I love it when memories pop into my mind. I should write them down as well when it happens.
Thank you for sharing, Barbara.
God bless,
Steve

You need to write them down. I kept being encouraged to do so and am now doing it. Thank you for the support.

My mother has books of memories stashed all over the house. She's been sharing some of them with me lately.

Hello Barbara! (Port Raid Review #5)
---What a harrowing story! There is no doubt that you have so many stories like this in your life. It is good that you are writing them out so they are not lost to time.
---"have you ever been contained to a two-bed motel room with three rambunctious boys." --Maybe not three, but I have had to do so with two! And that was more than enough!
---I was curious as to the the nature of the reason you didn't get Brian's pay. I was hoping you would explain it by the end, but you never did. If at all possible, I think it would be better if you included this in the story at the end.
Here are just a few things I noticed for you to change if you agree:
---"Brian came home and announced[,] his unit was deploying to Saudi Arabia" --Comma should be removed.
---"Okay, I got this. I can do it and did. We are now in a spacious three-bedroom house with a yard and a kitchen. GREAT!!" --Here is another shift in tense from past to present.
---"She said, 'Ma'am, it doesn't state you [have] any authority over your husband's LES.'" --Seems a word is left out here.
This is the end of your Port Raid! I thoroughly enjoyed my time visiting you! I shall now head to other ports, but I have you on my maps and charts and shall return again soon! Keep your lighthouse beacon lit and a bottle of your best wine at the tavern for me! Take care!

Brian's pay didn't come through because finance made a mistake, and it was taken care of once the senator was involved. LOL I probably need to make that clearer. It thought I had, but I guess you can't read my mind.

Sounds like another maddening experience for having to deal with any form of our government. "We the people," are always last to know anything when dealing with the bureaucracy bandits. Thanks for sharing.

It must be so hard for military family's particularly with their loved ones being away for long periods of time and not being able to contact them all the time. You describe this really well in this piece, Barbara and I really liked this insight into your life. A well written piece, I enjoyed reading it.

There is an old saying in the Army. "The job is not completed until the paperwork is done." I remember a few instances when that was eminently clear. It was unfortunate, but that was the way it always turned out. It's good you finally got it all worked out. Every tour in the army means the family is serving too.

I've voted for Dick Durban several times. I'm glad my vote helped you. I don't know if I would have been so diplomatic with the finance clerk. She doesn't sound like she was interested in helping you.

She was not interested in helping me. I was not happy but it turned out okay in the end. Thank you for the kind review.

I was in the Navy for twenty four years and I can feel your pain. I was a bit luckier, I homesteaded in San Diego, bought a home for my family but had many deployments without them.

You faced some challenges here Barbara and when we are up against red tape, it can be very frustrating. I loved your sense of humour though and this probably stopped you from completely blowing your top! A fine post Barbara and I loved learning about your interesting story here of your early days bringing up your children, love Dolly x x x

I assume you got things settled and worked out. I sewar a little common sense should have been used here. You were not only a wife but a mother of three. Even if your husband had dealt with you in a less than proper manner, I know from experience that his top sergeant would have made him do the right thing.
