An anapestic poem for Potlatch Poetry

Victor

by damommy

Let me tell you the tale about Victor the Aardvark,
a champion anteater back in his day.
Now, admitting he’s lost all his spit and his spark,
he’s content just to sit watching grand-aardvarks play.

His appetite wasn’t his only success
causing ladies to swoon as they foraged by night.
Pleasant face and physique and sufficient finesse
filled the damsels of aardvark-dom’s hearts with delight.

As he searched for his supper one evening quite late,
he met the fair maiden that captured his heart.
Right then and right there, they had each found their mate,
and for twenty-one years they were never apart.

As he sits on the park bench, he’s happy reflecting
on memories, having his family around.
He knows the day’s coming, he’s happy expecting
to join his sweet Emily on the Great Mound.
