A dream house is lost.

Slamming Doors

by Thomas Bowling

Slamming Doors

I promised her if she would take my hand
I'd build the finest house in the land

Everything was so well planned
But our house was built on shifting sand

Even though I begged her stay
She packed her bags and went away
She didn't love me anymore
The house said, rich but her heart was poor

A dream house doesn't make a home
When all the love inside has gone

Nothing left but bitter strife
Has spoiled our plans and ruined our life

Now we have granite kitchen countertops
Swinging doors with brass door stops

Chandeliers in every room
Big skylights to keep out gloom
The finest polished marble floors
And beautiful hardwood slamming doors

Our house was built on sand it seems
It wasn't enough to fulfill her dreams

I could never do enough
To tame a heart that couldn't love

Even though I gave her

Granite kitchen countertops
Swinging doors with brass door stops
Chandeliers in every room
Big skylights to keep out gloom
The finest polished marble floors
And beautiful hardwood slamming doors

She said she didn't meet someone new
There were just things she had to do

Why she left, I'll never know
In
shifting sand love can't grow

And now I sit here all alone

An empty house is not a home
Soon winter's chill will come along
By the time it hits, I'll be gone

Where I'll go I do not know
Someplace where love can grow

One thing I'll never have any more
Is a house with slamming doors

Our house was built on sand it seems
It wasn't enough to fulfill her dreams
I could never do enough
To tame a heart that couldn't love

Even though I gave her

Granite kitchen countertops
Swinging doors with brass door stops

Chandeliers in every room
Big skylights to keep out gloom
The finest polished marble floors
And beautiful hardwood slamming doors
