When the Mirror Fails

by Chris Davies

I awoke this morning and was such a sight.

It gave me the most awful fright.

I stood tall and held my stomach tight,

Holding my breath with all my might.

I’d be thinner if I could gain some height.

---

My hair seemed styled by dynamite;

My teeth were several shades off-white.

Too much time in the bright sunlight

Made my wrinkles an awful blight.

What’s happened to put me in such a plight?

---

I frowned at myself and gave up the fight.

Then thought of a plan and to my delight,

I returned to bed and doused the light.

Now everything will be alright.
