A Dangerous Mission
The Rescue

The Adventurer drew his sword, plunging into the living tunnel.
He slashed at the grasping tendrils, which shrieked and wailed.
Godwin stumbled forwards, emerging into a wilderness.
First obstacle surmounted.
Godwin was a Freelance, commissioned by King Bron to rescue his daughter.
Princess Shona had been abducted by the vampire witch Griselda and held for ransom.
This must be Garden Grymme. Three paths forked in different directions.
The bat, hovering, said, "follow the middle, through the trees."
A trap? He had to risk it.
Godwin traversed the copse without incident.
The bat, atop a wooden cabin, said, "she drowses within. Rouse her with a kiss."
Godwin pushed inside. A beautiful maid lay sleeping. Shona! Success!
His kiss wakened the woman who instantly transformed into a hideous, cackling crone.
"Thank you, father, for another tasty victim."
Spellbound, paralysed, Godwin offered no resistance as the witch sank her fangs into his neck.

King Bron was very disappointed in his daughter, Shona (aka Griselda), who turned to the dark side. She accepted banishment from the kingdom in return for her father*s promise to keep her supplied with a regular inflow of handsome young men for her pleasure and nourishment.
