What lies ahead
The Other Side
Now, as I take my final breath
And fall into the arms of death,
Abandoning my mortal role,
Unleashing my immortal soul,
I leave my humble place of birth,
This ship of life that we call Earth.
I join my loved ones from the past
Who, years ago, they breathed their last,
Now waiting in this timeless place
To meet my spirit, face to face.
My ancestors of yesteryear
Are gathered 'round to greet me here.
I find I'm walking, arm in arm,
With someone who had done me harm.
No animosity is seen.
The slate of life has been wiped clean.
No disagreements here to fix;
No sides to take, no politics.
No jealousies or wrath to hide
When you pass to the other side.
Now, it will take some time, I know,
To fit in and see how things go,
But once I find what's planned for me,
I'll settle in and try to see
If I can help incoming souls
Adapt to their immortal roles.
But now I'll wait and pin my hopes
On watching close and learn the ropes.
Then when I'm trained, and things are clear,
I'll see if I can find God here.
