Time for Breakfast

by Verna Cole Mitchell

Let me tie this bib
Around your neck, Sweetie.
I hope you like your breakfast.
I fixed an egg for you,
Nice and soft, like you like it,
And I put lots of grape jelly
On your toast.

I'm so tired.

Don't put so much
In your mouth at once.
Please, Honey,
Don't throw the crusts
On the floor.
Did you know
You have a purple mustache?

I'm so tired.

Drink all your milk.
It's good for your bones.
That's my sweetheart.
Now let me wash your face,
Okay?

I'm so tired

You have no idea
How this is breaking my heart-
I miss you so, Mama
