Woman finagles a free meal
Busted in a FLASH
by Elizabeth Emerald
Two penny tidbit
My friend Scott used to host an annual Thanksgiving dinner for those who'd otherwise be alone.
Now that Corona has quashed indoor gatherings, Scott has switched to providing certificates for restaurant takeout meals.
Scott wryly acknowleges the irony of his alternate solution. The purpose of the public dinner was to encourage mingling of otherwise lonely people; now, those people are obliged to have their dinner in isolation.
Scott rationalized that the takeout meals would at least serve to ease the burden of seniors on fixed income.
Yesterday, a woman came to Scott's shop to pick up four certificates for her family. Scott instructed her to pick up the meals between 8 and 12 Thanksgiving morning.
The woman complained of inconvenience; she'd planned on picking up the meals the evening prior.
Scott, puzzled, asked: Why not get them when they're fresh?
The woman replied: Because my son is taking us out for Thanksgiving Dinner.
