Equality

I'm a veteran (just an old geezer)
Combat is the great equalizer
Many times have I faced death
It drains all prejudice from my veins
Knowing our blood is nearly the same

In close quarters with explosions about
We still breathe the same molecules
I see each one as a gift from Heaven
I'm thankful for the life I'm given

As I look at others in my crew
We all look the same in danger
We all know there's none else to do
No longer can we find a stranger

Heroes don't act as superior
Their behavior is nothing new
Courage is found in interior
Finding the heart is hard to do

This hero lives in all of us
We're all equal in our makeup
Let's not lament and cause a fuss
When we're family, we have backup
