Hope for Acclaim Gone in a FLASH

by Elizabeth Emerald

Two-cent lament

This afternoon, I sang five songs in front of twenty guests.

My friend, who'd accompanied me on his guitar, said I never sounded better (the bar is low).

I was pleased with my performance; my voice was strong, I didn't flub the lyrics, I stayed in key.

I dared to hope the captive audience would be captivated.

Every one of the twenty present didn't rush the stage to congratulate me.
