Trying to talk to my mother

Unimportant

by Monica Chaddick

Tried to call my mom again
Really need to talk
Once again my call is silenced
Guess I'll take a walk

I get I am not special here
Many others come before
But I can't even talk to her
If I go through the door

She cuts me off for Casey,
She cuts me off for Ruth,
She cuts me off for Mary,
Guess I don't get the rule

She cuts me off for Carl
And for Shelby, too
She even stops me for the dog
Guess the message should be clear

She doesn't want to talk to me
Or even want me here
It's okay for her to call
And keep me on the phone
But I'd better only listen
And not let out a groan

Everyone has problems
Guess theirs are worse than mine
Sometimes I need to talk, too
But she never has the time

So I write thoughts in my journal
Or add poems to my book
And even when I mention them
She doesn't want to look
