Apocalyptic Drabble (100 words)

The Price of Water

by Mark Jackson

The noise of a group outside drew my attention. I looked through the slit in my boarded-up window to see one of the group stepping over the body of the previous visitor. Not killed by me but he could not know that.  I rushed to my cupboard reaching past the bottled water, currently earth's most valuable commodity, and picked up the copper pipes affixed longways and sprayed black.

Returning to the window, I slid my makeshift weapon through the slit and shouted a warning. This did the trick, but I suspect they’ll be back tonight, better organised and in greater numbers.
