Limerick
Poetry Contest
A limerick is a story told in one stanza of 5 lines. They are comical, absurd, or bawdy.
Rhyme: AABBA
Syllables: lines 1, 2 and 5 have three stressed syllables (usually 7-9 syllables total)
Lines 3 and 4 have two stressed syllables (usually 5-7 syllables total)
Example:
There was an Old Man with a beard,
Who said, "It is just as I feared!
Two Owls and a Hen,
Four Larks and a Wren,
Have all built their nests in my beard!"
