Write a Limerick!
Poetry Contest
It's Limerick time again!
A jolly form that everyone seems to love. Limericks are originated in Ireland and are traditionally bawdy. However, bawdy is not a hard requirement here, it may be too much for some (smile). Try to make it fun though.
Limericks are usually written in anapaestic meter. That's a syllable emphasis beat of [da-da-DUM-da-da-DUM etc) - the 'das' being un-emphasised, and the 'DUMS' being emphasised syllables.
Write a single Limerick or Limerick suite in five lines with a syllable count which could be either of the 4 examples below:
9-9-6-6-9, 9-9-5-5-9, 8-8-6-6-8, 8-8-5-5-8
