ITCHYWEBFEET: I am working on several projects but by far the most difficult one is about the philosophy of survival which I describe as the conquering of adversity. It is often a journey between two parts of a dichotomy, i.e. from slavery to freedom, injustice to justice, death to life, war to peace, despair to hope, hell to heavens etc...These journeys become sacred. Why this project? Because in 1968, I was working for the United Nations in Geneva and met Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia. Later, at the UN in NY, I met my wife and we got married in Jamaica, where I met Rastafarians. It is only then that I realised Haile Selassie was their God. I had to find out how does one become a God? The book I want to put together begins with the discovery of the new world, slavery, and the back to Africa movement which I think is the main motivating factor culminating in the hope put in Ras Tafari as a way to conquer adversity. (Ras means Prince in Amharic, the Ethiopian language and Tafari was Haile Selassie's title before being crowned Emperor). My difficulty with this project is that I want to incorporate the philosophical messages about survival into the historical progression. Other projects I am working on is an autobiography and a collection of French Yarns. I have been published in various magazines and my work appears in three anthologies. I only just retired and hope to be able to spend more time achieving my writing ambitions. |
