Callyope: An Accidental Thought:

To be as free as a rooted tree, doesn't seem all that free to me!
William Walz: Whoever said a tree was free? -
Callyope: Not anyone, ever, at all to my knowledge... Then again, what do I know?! -
Xylok: that IS an interesting thought indeed! sounds like poetry muse to me! how free is ANYTHING, is what it makes me think of. -
Callyope: Hi Xy! And, yes! That's exactly what I'm screamin'! -
Selina Stambi: Born free ...as free as the wind blows, as free as the grass grows ...! -
Xylok: like i said before, sounds like poetry to me. thanks for the muse, love the thought.

Give Me Freedom, Or I'll Take It
    by us

Freedom is as relative as time.

To be as free as a rooted tree
doesn't seem all that free to me
for what good are wings you cannot test
if talons be tangled in the nest?

Though they are able to dance in the wind,
and love to do so time and again,
boughs strong enough to hold up the sea
    rooted trees aren't totally free.

They go around the sun the same as the earth,
ranging from them all, to starting at birth.
If I were to choose to be as free as a tree
    I'd be imprisoning me.

No, I want to be without roots ensnared,
want to be free to encompass the air,
not just here but also there,
    somehow, happily, everywhere!

I want to be so free there is no me
but all there is in totality.
I want to be so free, I can decide
if I should live, or die. -
Xylok: probably change the word 'if' to 'since' I'm thinking, though. lates. -
    Xylok: here yar; final copy:

"To be as free as a rooted tree

and love to do so, time and again,

    rooted trees aren't totally free.

Callyope: Yes, Yes, YES!!! Absolutely awesome and a philosophy that I consciously try to live by! -

Callyope:
I promise, I'll be you're #1 poet if you promise to be my #1 fan...
country ranch writer: hey girl posted the Angels and Unicorns on widbook also my book on Going Home -
Callyope: Congratulations Country! I'm so very proud of you for navigating the darkness of publication and going thru with it!!! -

Callyope: I'm so excited to share with all of you that my poem, "Champagne Dream," was chosen to be published in a book of contemporary poetry containing 300 poems, written by both well-known and amateur poets alike. Titled, "In My Lifetime," it will be available at amazon.com and the Barnes and Noble website.

I had submitted this piece to an amateur poetry competition and unexpectedly received a letter from contest officials shortly thereafter expressing that they feel my submission would make a strong contribution to their book. Furthermore, it was also chosen to be featured as part of a professionally-recorded CD of poetry in the baritone voice of Al Rose!

"Champagne Dream," is currently a contest finalist competing for a grand prize of $2,000 cash! Keep your fingers crossed and wish me luck!!!
Gypsy Starchild: Congratulations and good luck! -
country ranch writer: CONGRATS MY DEAR FRIEND -
Callyope: Thanks girls! There's no monetary gain involved, but they promise to provide a large audience... That's all I ever cared about to begin with, my voice being heard. I sure am hoping for that grand prize, though. More for the win than for the money, but $2,000 is an added deal sweetener for sure! -
MoonMuse: Wow... Huge congrats! Way to go! -
Cookie333: Well! You got it goin' on over here! Congrats lady, now...I came here to find a piece...
    k -
The Death: Congrats!keep rocking always:-) -
Xylok: congratulations abound indeed, a wonderful poem for all to read. -

Callyope:
The time has come, my little friends, to talk of other things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot, and whether pigs have wings... Calloo, Callay, come run away... With the cabbages and kings. ~
Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
William Walz: The guy must have been as nutty as a fruitcake. -
Callyope: On the contrary, he embraced his inner child without doubt or fear or hesitation. He allowed his imagination to take the driver's seat while leaving any sense of real logic hanging from the limb of a willow tree. He thought some of the most bizarre and intriguing thoughts that any one person has ever thought. Well, that's just my opinion, and I happen to be one of Lewis's greatest fans. More so Alice than Lewis, but I think you get the gist of it... (wink, wink) -
    Xylok:
I love that poem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he has other great ones too, but a wonderful write be the walrus and the carpenter!
this one's a great poem by him too...
    -
Callyope: Thanks so much for these, Xylok! You don't know how much I love Lewis, and especially Alice. You're the best!! Hugs be unto you!! -

Callyope: "If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what it is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?" ~
Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
William Walz: Love that Mad Hatter! -
DIS-illusioned: Ah, the joys of good pot! :-D -
Callyope: A very, very Unbirthday to you, Billy! And if it's 'good,' the joys are countless, Bwaha... Since you mentioned it, I'd like for you to read an ABC poem of mine titled, "For Sale." It's a humor poem and I think you might get a kick out of it... Let me know what you think, k? I think it'll make you say, "Bwahahahahaha!" -
Callyope: Look, I posted that 3 minutes late... Darn it!
    -
Gypsy Starchild: Where have you been? Did you get the PM? Are the fairies behaving themselves? -
Callyope: I'm not sure if I got it or not... Did it mention a pixie infestation? If so, then yes, I got it. And they're behaving well so far. I think a few of them are really warming up to me, while there are a few that continue to put their noses in the air and look the other way. I may need you to give me a lesson in faery song, I don't think they're too fond of my tuneless notes. But they do enjoy my dancing, and very much. They seem to like to hang out in the closets in my bedroom... What's up with that, any idea? -
Gypsy Starchild: Closets are commonly extradimensional portholes,so are cupboards, cabinets, any doors that seemingly lead to nowhere.... :) Offer them butter, honey, and shiny silver things (it does not have to be real silver, nickels and dimes are fine).... and if you plant Fox glove flowers the fey will love you for it (but make sure that you educate the kids about them, they are poisonous). Most of the fey like cats, so if you have a cat pay attention, the cat will frequently alert you to their presence, cats seem to get along with all fey except for pixies and brownies.... -
Gypsy Starchild: Have you gotten a chance to check out any of those Alice decks that I told you about? -

Callyope: On this day, the 7th anniversary of her death, old wounds fester as a tragedy is relived.

My mom and closest friend...
May your next journey be feather-like and free of heartache. Until then, rest in serenity and be intensely missed. Our paths will cross again somehow... someday.
DIS-illusioned: My sincerest and deepest condolences. :-(
Take heart. You are together still, in spirit. -
Callyope: My heart thanks you deeply for your gentle consolation, Bwa... It's like I can feel the weight of my soul, as if it were trapped in the midst of a frigid December rainstorm. As well as an emptiness in my chest that's filled only with a hollow heart.

It'll pass soon enough. It's good to vent it out...
    -
sunnilicious: Sorry for the loss of your mother. May peace always be with you. H&K, Sunnilicious
    -
    RPSaxena: Hi Callyope/Talesha,
Today I could know the reason behind your 'Harbinger of chaos' and 'The Stairs'. You are facing an irrecoverable loss, but feel assured your Mom's soul is at peace enjoying God's blessings. That's why U r able to bring in light such wonderful pieces of poetry. Always feel her with you and go on and on the path you have chosen. May God continue to bless her soul and you too! -
Phyllis Stewart: I know how you feel. We never get over the loss of a mom. Mine passed away 2.5 years ago, and I still sometimes think "I should ask mom..." I miss her at odd times of the day. I'm sure it's the same in 7 years, or 20. My aunt, when she was 80, broke down in tears talking about her dad...who died when she was 20. --Phyllis -
Callyope: Thank you all for your kind and soothing words. I use her death day to exhaust all of the tears that I hold onto throughout the year. It's quite exhilarating to cry so hard that you can feel strange electricity flowing through every skin cell while you choke on your own breath. And then, the next day you feel recharged and refreshed. Pain and agony can bring about positive changes if it's experienced in moderation, like anything else. I feel much better, thanks for checking in on me. Especially you, Bwaha. It's pretty disconcerting when the perpetual jokester gets all serious on ya. You truly are a real friend, Bwaha, and I love you for that... -
Xylok: hugs to you. many of them. -

Callyope:
Daily Quote for Pondering...

Don't live by my words, don't die by them, chew them slowly- digest them, and smile if they give nourishment to your soul. ~~
Stanley Victor Paskavich
webfoot: how did you get that picture up there? -
Callyope: While writing your 'status,' right next to the share button you'll find a button that says 'add image.' Click it and Smileys appear. You just gotta scroll through them and chose the one you want by clicking the share button. After the message has been generated, of course... -
DIS-illusioned: Uh, and if they give me indigestion/constipation? :-p
    (Paint me a picture--slowly). :-) -
Callyope: A little warm milk or cherry-flavored antacids should nip that right in the bud. (wink wink)
    8^) -

Callyope:
A thought provoking question... If you're bold, please leave a comment. Thanks
... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
How short would your life have to be before you would start living differently today?
William Walz: I think about 5 feet 6 inches tall would do the trick. -
shelley kaye: i'm 5'6" now.... my daughter is 5 ft exactly.... so i'd have to say 4 ft 4 in....

    ;-)

    -
Gypsy Starchild: I change my mind every five minutes and would probably continue to do so no matter how long or short my time. :) -
Callyope: I've just realized that I'm too lazy to even contemplate this one... Man, that's pretty bad!

Nothing gets a person moving quite like fear, though. It's gotta be one of the best motivators in all of the cosmos... -
DIS-illusioned: I already live differently everyday, though I don't know how long/short my life is.
Funny thing is, my life would probably become static if I realized I had a very short time to live. Go figure! :-p -
watergirl: Yes, living in the now is an art. Eckhart Tolle, and his wonderful smile. Or the smile of the Cheshire cat. A wake up call never goes astray. -
Callyope: That was beautiful, watergirl. And it left quite a deep impression as well. Thank you ;) -
xotic flotsam: As a devoted adrenaline junkie, my temptation is fear. Sometimes all the best things in life are dangerous. By looking death into the eye, I know the value of the moment. Some fear keeps us safe. I'm not sure of life's time table, but I don't fear finding out. The Romans capture the idea with carpe diem. Fear keeps my thinking clear. Did I just write a random rhyme? Hold on to your hats, time to ride. -

Callyope:
Random philosophical quote:

It takes all the running you can do just to keep in the same place. ~ Lewis Carroll
DIS-illusioned: Paradoxically deep. Much a do 'bout nada. Well said, Lewis. :-) -
Callyope: Story of my life... I share this story with just about every other person on the planet lol! 8^) -

Callyope: Callyope's Philosophical Quote of the Day:

The eyes of a poet discover in each person a unique and irreplaceable humanity. While arrogant intellect seeks to control and manipulate the world, the poetic spirit bows with reverence before its mysteries. ~
Daisaku Ikeda
DIS-illusioned: Um, I guess we all owe our (improved) quality of life to arrogant intellects, then. :-p
    :) -
Callyope: Ah, no doubt! Lol!! And there's always room for more (improvement)!
    8^) -
DIS-illusioned: I'll be sure to pass that on to the arrogant bast... I mean, intellects I know. :-D -
catch22: I really like this quote. It's very true:) -
watergirl: The road to magic. -

Callyope: As a writer, I seem to be presently consumed by the poetic arts. It happened so suddenly, without warning, almost by accident. It was January, 2013 when I discovered that I possessed a deep and ever-flowing passion for writing poetry. Perhaps I'm new to the scene, but my passion for writing something beautiful and genuine cannot be measured...
Treischel: Those are fabulous sentiments. Writing beautiful poetry is a joy. Welcome and enjoy the site. -
DIS-illusioned: Get out while you still can! Them dreaded haiku will do you in! *Gulp!* ... Bwaha! :) -
Callyope: For all those who read and rate my work, I just wanna say that I can't thank you enough. Your comments have already made a dramatic impact on my level of confidence and drive after being here only a few days. And many of you have helped me find an ever deeper understanding of my own thoughts. I want nothing more than for my voice to be heard, and more importantly, "felt." -
Selina Stambi: Dropping in to say hello, Callyope. So nice to meet you.

    Can't believe I'm agreeing with LOLz-Bwa: haikus frighten me too! :) -
country ranch writer: YOU ARE OFF TO A GOOD START WELCOME TO FAN STORY EVERYONE HERE IS FAMILY MISIUS A FEW CRANKY ONES BUT MOST ARE GREAT HOPE YOU LIKE US ENOUGHT TO STAY AND GIVE US A SHOT -

hellspook: There is nothing like playing with word to get understood. Shine bright, rising star. -

watergirl: Ah, to express oneself, what a joy; with pen or pencil, with smile or deed, on horseback or running on beach with dog friends. Life is magical. -
