General Poetry
Shelia Kaye Diaz: I am a survivor who grew up as a migrant farm worker living in abandoned houses, and camping by rivers from Arizona to Washington State. During winter, I lived in the San Joaquin Valley where I attended 19 elementary schools and five high schools before graduating at 15 and going to work to support myself and my mother. I raised two sons while working and going to school full- time. I received a degree in English and education before becoming an English teacher in South Central Los Angeles. I am currently retired and spend my time reading, writing, and volunteering. I have published poetry in various small presses, as well as professional journals such as California English, and have read my poetry at different public universities in California. I have also published non-fiction articles in North of San Francisco and California English. |
