A very well-written poem about the enormous task to vote in a very important election that can make a huge difference in the lives of Americans. I hope your vote will count for the best future.

Hello Jesse!
Your free verse offering is realistic and timely as most Americans are currently voting and/or planning to do so.
I've heard politicians and newscasters, as well as friends, characterize the upcoming election as the "most important" election of our country's history. I believe it is as well.
These two lines resonated deeply:
I must take this act of service seriously
and ask of myself the hard questions,

So many decisions and parameters are up for consideration...

Thank you for sharing!
Hoping that you are feeling better each day!

Take Care!

Thank you for taking the "act of service" by voting seriously. I appreciate your inspiring every eightteen yearold citizen to exercise their "priviledge" and "duty" to vote. Here's to making a difference! -Joan

-A nice presentation for
your poem, Jesse.
-Our ballots went in last Tues.
-I consider it an honor and
privilege to vote.
-You wrote a very good
poem about the whole process.
-I agree that it is an important
decision, not to be taken lightly.
-The questions are usually
difficult, and need some careful reading!
-I like your lines about "taking no action"
and the concluding verse, too.
-You did a good job.

Timely and important message here. Summed up beautifully in this passage:

"This is both a privilege and a duty,
depending on how I choose to view it,
remembering that taking no action
is an act in and of itself."

When I hear people say they are fed up with the infighting and divisiveness and so are going to "sit this one out" and not vote--I quite literally find myself very nearly echoing your words--

If we do not participate in the process we cannot hope to exact change or expect improvement.

Yes, it is an awesome responsibility---and a patriotic duty as well!

I hope your poem inspires all to vote!

Jesse,

Nice. This is an important message that folks need to take account of. It's drives me NUTS to hear people complain about the state of the country, city, or state, when I learn they don't even vote! haha

Thanks!

It is both a privalege and a duty, indeed, and you convey both throughout this fine poem. I can relate, as it sounds like my very own feelings and thoughts while filling it out and looking up justices, etc. I love that include the GUT feeling too. That's just as important.

I particularly applaud your unifying thoughts expressed here:

and help decide what the future holds for folks like me,
as well as those unlike me.

And this is a crucial factor as well, so important to include, and so well voiced with your simple, direct voicing style, which serves the poem so well:

remembering that taking no action
is an act in and of itself.

A pitch perfect closing note of positivity:

A wave of gratitude washes over me,
as I lay my pen down on completion
of casting my vote.

Excellent work. No nits. Tight and polished.

Warmly, rd

This is a very thoughtful and thought-provoking poem. I share your thoughts and concerns. I will vote, of course. Those who won't should!
I do wish that--just once before I die--I could go to the polls at COMPLETE peace over what I'm about to do!!

This I do. I examine every candidate thoroughly, especially the judges. I'm a patriot, conservative, and libertarian. What's most important in this election, is equal justice under the law. The rights of the unborn sit close to my heart, so mine are already picked and ready to go. The unborn have no rights at this moment. I hope to make a difference.
Sending you my best today as always,
Sal XOs....
