Excellent theory on a writers life. You included it all, the need, the love, and fulfillment of one's self in writing. Tell your wife to read your story and maybe she will understand. My husband thinks I am so talented and creative, I guess I should be thankful for that. I self-published a book, but before I signed papers, I informed my husband that I was going to blow away about $2,000. My rationalizing this expenditure was I drive a 2011 chevy HHR and it is all I need. I do not spend an exorbitant amount of money on clothes or frivolous purchases, and he appreciates all of the above. So all is well in our household. Good luck with the contest, hope you win.

Thank you and thanks to the many wonderful writers who gave me such great reviews. And, thanks to those who voted for my story. Of course, nothing beats learning that I either reflected the feelings of others or simply entertained them by holding up a mirror. I am late with this common response because I spilled wine on my laptop keyboard. I told my wife it was due to "writer's cramps". She didn't believe me...

Great job! You nailed it. I do love to write and don't fully understand why. I think you definitely represented writers very fairly. I voted for you to win this contest. Good luck!

Excellent! Entertaining! Perfection in artwork, title, content. I enjoyed the humor (life needs more of that) and was disappointed, after reading through to the end, that there was no more to read. An awesome and IMHO accurate depiction of what is in the heart and minds of writers and poets.
I especially loved the line, 'It is dangerous to live with such high inventory in our mental warehouse.'
Very best wishes!

I absolutely love this. You're talking right at me, and about me. I'm new at this writing gig. -Wanna Be Is Me- I sometimes feel very conspicuous when I take notes at my observations of the people that are all around us. Maybe it's cause I'm smiling and looking like the cat that ate....
BTW I'm secretly envious of your much deserved retirement! Just kidding!

Reese,

Wow. What an awesome post. You have verbalized -- and well -- that thing that moves writers to write. This is highly entertaining and certainly on-pointe.

A single note -
--> Within most of us, there is something to say about something. For others, about anything. For the severely afflicted, about everything.
--> I hope you won't mind, but I had to keep this. I posted it on my profile here so more folks might see it -- highlighted, just as it deserves to be.

Thanks and good luck!

I fully empathize with every single word that you wrote. It is often better to let one's self out in writing than keep everything bottled in until a fuse blows out. You deserve to win this contest. Keep writing...

You had me at the second paragraph. What a wonderfully clear and slyly humor collection of words.
A very good and original idea, to have a conversation with Shakespeare.
It is quite a talent to be able to respond as Shakespeare and sound roughly as he would.
"A prisoner of rhyme" is nice.
I too am a Suess fan but I embraced him only as an older lady, not as a child.
Thoroughly delightful work.

Well said Reese, and well written. Your words fairly well echo my own. I lived in Texas for 20 years. RV pilot, the biggest reward in retirement.
Writing now is a mission, passion, hobby, time taker, waster, savior, and sometimes, an occasional nibble in publishing, but more important than all that, to be read! And as you say we are prisoners, answering to the page. It's inside us, and this is the only way it can get out, that sweet, beautiful print.
Oop's, wife yelling, I forgot the dishes again.

Thanks Reese. I can't drink wine, but maybe a beer spill will work!

Real beer probably would work. Not sure a light beer would power memorable writings...

I couldn't have expressed it better - so I won't. You've taken my thoughts and spliced them into a very well written explanation of how writing can divert us, provide catharsis, uplift us and entertain... and an appreciative reader is secondary. I've come to writing later in life myself, so I fully understand this new joy - "seeing old things in a new light".
I look forward to reading more of your "plethora of potential pontifications".

Wow!! You are my new best friend! I would wax more, but I'm in a Mexican food restaurant in Sedano, AZ and between the music and arthritis thumbs, it is a struuggle. But, it is good to hear others feel the same. Let me invite you to my portfolio to enjoy writings of an aging salesman, father and golfer. Thanks so much!

That is probably Sedona? All those red rocks make for gorgeous scenery.
I've read a few of your postings and enjoyed all of them... keep 'em coming!

Sedona it is. Surely the fault of the arthritis, not the tequila... Thanks for your review and your friendship. Playing golf tomorrow among those red rocks... Taking extra balls.
