It's hard to know whether to laugh or cry. It would be really, really funny if only it weren't so close to true.

It Brings to mind a statue they erected on my campus back in the day. It was a 15' tall penis. No one had any idea what it was supposed to be. It was labeled something useless like 'modern art', but there it proudly stood in the middle of a green lawn at the entrance to campus. It became a directional beacon (turn right at the big dick.)

Your interview is well written, entertaining, and a well-crafted satirical piece on the state of our culture and the utter deconstruction of art.

Thanks for sharing (and for the memories--haha)!

And thank you, Julie. Hopefully this stupid, so-called art movement has died off. But I still see a few die hards out there now and then.

I enjoyed your description: Anus of Armageddon. We recently has a sink hole appear in the middle of a road in a suburban street in London and I am sure they thought the same as you. One car's back wheels were teetering on the edge of the hole! No one was thinking of art with this occurrence. I enjoyed your sarcastic humour here, very entertaining, love Dolly x x x

I laughed reading this story, and we have something similar in Edmonton. I like how you used such a pretentious language to make an artistic joke more interesting. "
The name Anus refers literally to the bowels of the earth, Malcolm. Armageddon is a metaphor for the end times, the destruction of our planet.

So, this, in a way, is an ecological message. How?

The bowels represent the core of our planet. To walk up and gaze into the Anus is to imagine the very soul of our planet's existence and grasp the dangers we are placing on it from above." Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings

Thanks again Iza. I guess there's no laxitive for the bowels, just the trash we keep thowing in it.

Art should be shelved when it impede's public safety. A picture or video could have been used to the same effect without the hazard. And as far as the car pile up as art, it is just lazy and ugly in my opinion. You can go to any bad part of town and see that stuff. Good writing. Karen

This work has reached the exceptional level

What a great satire on the condition of modern art today, Brad, and the pompous, mainly leftist intellectuals who so revere its "creativity" and audacity. It's gotten to the point where even leftists are at odds with each other over things, as when Inez calls complaining that the Effen Swallowtail will be endangered by this "art." (Great name, by the way: Effen Swallowtail!)

I kind of liked Billy Rae Duggins' suggestion. Nice touch.

Modern art today, to me, represents a celebration of the anything goes attitude, that there are no objective standards by which to judge art, that it's entirely subjective and that whatever I create is creative because I created it. I think you parodied that idea very well in this piece.

I also loved Malcolm's excuse that he had to attend the Chili-Eating Contest sponsored by GAS-beGONE Deodorizer instead of being Lothar's special guest at the ceremony to honor his masterpiece. A perfect rejoinder to that idiot Lothar.

Excellent piece!

Thanks for the 5-star plus, Jim. You're a man after my own heart. I wrote this story after the City of Vancouver, here in BC, paid a so-called left-wing artist taxpayer money for a pile of wrecked cars next to the freeway. Somehow, this was a message for us to slow down. The only thing that WAS taken down was this monstrosity. It showed how some left-wing politicians use silly thinking.
    Thanks again, Brad

I recently listened to a PragerU video about this very theme. It gave many examples of so-called art by modern artists, which fools paid good money to buy because it would make people think they were sophisticated to be able to appreciate such crap.

    A couple of examples:

Michelangelo carved the Statue of David from a rock, while the Los Angeles County Museum of Modern Art just has a rock on display.

Classical artists gave us beautifully sculpted marble statues, while modern art gave us Petra, a prize-winning sculpture of a female policewoman squatting and urinating on the sidewalk complete with puddle of synthetic urine.

There were many other great examples in this 5-minute video. If you're interested in seeing it, you can find it at gttps://www.prageru.com/video/why-is-modern-art-so-bad

Just change the g in gttps to an h first. (FanStory doesn't allow valid hyperlinks in reviews.)

The joke is always on the viewer in these low-brow high-brow sophomoric displays. It's about seeing what one can get away with, rather than what one can aspire towards. Great art builds upon what came before it and is not destructive for its own sake, but for the sake of truth and clarity.

My only suggestion on your piece is to somehow annotate the speaker, perhaps using color with your text to do so. A fun read, and thanks for sharing,

🦍

I think this is an interesting post, done with humor and wit, that examines the philosophies permeating society today and how they interact, and conflict. It really speaks to the fragmented nature of our society, on the whole, as well as the self absorption of the individuals in it. Everyone is focused on their own interpretation of events. The artist is focused on making his statement on natural oblivion. The right wing caller wants to use the hole to get rid of left wing politicians. The environmentalist wants the hole eliminated to preserve a rare bird. The dialogue was precious. And the merry go round continues. estory

Thanks estory, a very good analogy. Many times people see different issues that only effect their world. This story is a case where only common sense is the right solution.

An excellent entry for the Dialogue Only Writing Contest. I enjoyed this satire and the reason it was so humorous was because it almost sounds real compared to some of the crazy stuff going on these days! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Marilyn, yes, the story is sort of a reaction to common issues that are over thought some times.

Hi there,

I do think this would carry more weight as satire if not marred by quite juvenile character names. Just an observation.

A, thank you, Lothar-I think? - might be better to use Ah here rather than just A.

I think the irony may be lost on the artiste that the hole is, in fact, man-made when lamenting man-made things obstructing nature's art... lol

All the best

    Hi again, GMG.
I will fix it as noted. Those hokey names are part of the comedic, silly side of this. But I'm open to suggestions. But gotta still be funny.
Yes, the irony of the character is the contradiction of the so-called in-touch artist.

    Thanks again, Brad

This had me snickering from start to finish. As I'm reading it, I thought this would be a great place to send Musk and the DOGE committee to check out.

I see this was written a few years back but is so "today".

Great format. Being a repost hopefully won't disqualify it from the contest.

Enjoy the day my friend.
John
