This is a beautiful sonnet in the tradition of love as it theme. Your image is awesome, Mystery Author. I enjoyed reading your well-thought out word choices. The lines, the rhymes, the flow, and the message all work together to create a superb entry.
Best wishes.
Respectfully, Jan

Author, this is indeed a superb Shakespearean sonnet. The thesis well developed with poignant imagery in the first two stanzas, the turn brilliant and a summation all can relate to.

Your metre and rhyme are spot on and the tone is warm and engaging.

I wish you much luck with this gem in the voters booth.

Gloria

I think you have written a proper and quite lovely Shakespearean sonnet. I liked it immensely. I thought the idea of making it a letter to a loved one serving in the armed forces was especially clever and creative. The first verse sets the scene and makes clear the point of the letter. The second verse reminds the loved one to look ahead and remember why he must return safely. (I thought 'sight' should have an s on the end) Then you come to the turn and have used the usual word, "but" even though I think it is equally acceptable to use "for" if that fits your sentence structure better. That last line in this verse is especially appealing. "and welcoming the treasures it allows." So full of promise and hope! Then the closing couplet brings everything into focus and sums up the whole sonnet/letter perfectly. Very nice and sure to do well in this contest, I think. Best of luck. MM

Wow, thank you so much for the outstanding review. I dearly appreciate the gracious and lovely comments. I've been tossing the idea about the 's' at the end of sight back and forth for a while. Thank you for the suggestions. I'll give them some thought. Thank you again for the great review and good luck wishes and I'm glad you liked my little love letter. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

This is much better than a Dear John letter. When a soldier is away not knowing if he will ever see home again, something like this is very encouraging,
Thanks for sharing.

This is a nicely romantic love poem from a woman who is waiting patiently for her love to return to her and wanting him to know it. It also alludes toher wating tho be his haven and healing when he returns.
Good luck, keep writing and stay healthy.

There's probably nothing worse than the reality of a loved one in the theatre of battle, I wonder often, the one who battles, or the one who waits, Dad was at Dunkirk at the beginning of WW2, trapped, wondering in there would be rescue, but I would never have been born if he hadn't. Well done, beautifully written sonnet, in smoothly pentameter and ababcdcdefefgg rhyming, well done, good luck, blessings Roy

Such beautiful writing such powerful descriptive words of love. Each moment spent in angst for your return. Hold close to your heart these words I write. Needed is our strength through snares of war to bond a love that carries promised vows .restoring blessed union as before, believe with all your soul these words I pen, for soon you'll fall into my arms again. Very beautifully written.

Shakespearean poetic words are very beautiful, meaningful words; which are written here, too. I never knew how romantic his poems were; another poet on this web-site has written his kind of poetry. Greatly written poem.

I always keep one sixer for the end of the week in case something awesome materializes. And here it is!

Flawless meter and rhyme. Powerful story within these fourteen lines. I like how the yearning of her heart also contains the healing for him. Excellent!

What a romantic you are, poet! Excellent post and contest entry. Beautifully formatted with a clear message. A great sonnet written to a loved one. Well done! Lynda
