Your twelve-word poem of fifteen sylables is very effective in conveying the loss of a summer friendship. I admired the picture you selected to reinforce the mood. Best wishes in the contest- Joan

This twelve-word poem, Whenever Pals Must Say Goodbye, has the right word count and finds that mute moment when words fail to fill in the feelings felt.

Summer has always been tht season that is seen as carefree when you are a child or at least a young adult. To have three months of freedom and connection with a place means feeling conflicted when you have to say goodbye.

Indeed it does. Many thanks, Mia, for sharing my story.

The reader will be drawn with this theme. The reader will be invited to reflect upon their own experiences where they had to say good bye. They will project their own situations where this had to happen. Well thought out.

Hello Mystery Writer,
Poignantly expressed and so true! The friends of summer always stay with us - if not in our presence, in our hearts.
What a moving tribute and an equally moving piece of artwork.
Thank you for sharing!
Best Wishes!

Hate it when that time comes.... for any age, yeah? ;) This is such a poignant write for this contest in only those twelve words -- thanx so very much for sharing and best of luck to you at the polls this evening! ;) :)

This 12-word poem is really nice and recognizable. Yes, summer holidays end so many times with a sad loss of vacation friends.
I would change the second line a bit. I thought dunes are more associated to the sea than the lake. To make it flow easily, I propose:
"they stare from dune to sea". But it is your poem, obviously, so ignore it if you want.

Hi, Marjon. Thank you for praising my short poem and the suggestion. We have huge dunes at the southern tip of Lake Michigan.
-
See? I am quite ignorant when dunes are involved. As a Dutch woman, I only knew the long row of dunes along the North Sea. And a bit of dune now in Mallorca, on the Mediterranean Sea. So please forgive me my not knowing of the dunes of Lake Michigan.

I can see how your words go so well with your words. It is always hard to say good-bye to summer. This is a good write for the 12 word writing contest.
