E,

An Ode to Bluegrass. *smile* I like it! You should have entered this in the Ode contest!

You don't see a lot about bluegrass anymore. That was another reason I loved the Beverly Hillbillies so much - they often had unusual and unique musicians visiting. Remember?

Thanks - I enjoyed!

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your wonderful comments supporting the poem. Glad it brought back happy memories for you. I wanted to celebrate this idea of sharing music together and now in the epidemic it might be more important than ever to keep this feeling alive. estory

back country and quick step should be backcountry and quickstep. Not into Bluegrass music at all, but growing up in Nashville, traditional country music can not be bettered by any other kind. Poem well captures the essence of the scene depicted.

Oh I love it, estory, and I was there. That is exactly what bluegrass is all about, by way my favorite music. You brought back so many memories from Denmark and Scotland where I've attended so many an evening in bars where bluegrass were performed and we danced the night away. Sometimes we just listened and hummed along. Here in Spain it's not played, at all, but every time I'm back in Scotland or Denmark, one of the nights you would know where to find me with a few friends.
Thanks a lot for sharing this well written poem. Ulla:)))

Thanks so much for the excellent review and for your perspective on the poem. Its always interesting to hear how a poem brings to life memories and experiences for people. I think maybe in this time of the epidemic, its more important than ever to keep alive this idea of celebrating music together. I didn't know bluegrass was that popular in Europe. The Bluegrass Festival is the biggest festival of the year here in Raleigh. Lots of free street performances, the big acts are ticketed, and lots of BBQ. It will be missed this year. estory

Oh that sounds just up my street. What a shame it's cancelled. Same in Denmark and Scotland, they both have festivals every summer. Now cancelled, of course. I sure hope life will one day get back to normal.

A fine tribute to the American gift to the world that is country music! I love the imagery you evoke of "...tight stitched picking, like hand-threaded lace..." weaving the dance partners into pairs, dancing into the night! You make me wish I was back in wild, wonderful, West Virginia!
Thank you for writing and sharing, "Bluegrass."

This is a great ode to bluegrass! Your descriptions were vivid and successfully set the scene for the event.
I thought the added details of the guitar wood and sawdust on the floor really added something to it!

Thanks so much for your excellent review and your comments about the poem. I tried to pick strong images to bring the moment to life, and I am glad they seemed to have worked for you. I wanted to celebrate this moment of enjoying music together, and I think maybe in the time of covid it might be more important than ever to hang on to this idea of celebrating things together again some day. estory

This had phenomenal imagery and visuals. Superb use of enjambment.

Slowly I am awoken,
To the cold I am broken,

I loved these:

Tight stitched picking, like hand threaded lace,
weaves figures of boys and girls together into pairs
in time to the quick step on the sawdust

Your words carry us right there, to the scene, with their charm and flair.

Thank you for sharing.

I often wonder how poets come up with their poetry. This site is an eye opener. I see that the brainpower of a poet is quite amazing. Well done!

Thanks so much for the excellent review and all the words of support. Right now I am working on a poetry book that is mainly pastoral romantic in theme generally circulating around the landscape and culture of North Carolina. This fits in with that and I just wanted to celebrate music, which is also near and dear to my heart. estory

I found the author's words to be engaging, interesting, and creative. The poem is uplifting with a detailed description of the scene. These words made me think of New Orleans where I go often. Thank you for the author's notes - they speak volumes! Have a great week!

I can tell you really love the whole experience of a country music festival. It is evident in your words and creation of this poem, that it is a passion for you. The weave of this poem is interesting and deserves a double-take, as it is deeper than first imagined.
Great job on this part of yourself!
Tina

    Ab-soul-lutely! Music soothes the soul.
People can count on music to calm and encourage or pump them up!
Anything that binds us together is worth writing about...especially in these days, so you are right on track!
