Bill,
How sad for his parents and family to lose so many children by disease. I hope he is healthy and stays that way. It is good that he has his grandpa bringing him joy.
Congrats on the honorable mention in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy

Great play on winter of his discontent--I was hoping this was fiction but feared it was true--I see it is, alas. Congrats on your recognition for this poignant piece. Cheers. LIZ

Bill,
And the world keeps spinning.
Like when you lose someone special - and your world STOPS.
But the entire universe outside your door never even pauses. The birds manage to tweet; the bugs on the ground still strive for life; the newspapers continue to be delivered. So odd, that.
But then, there IS the joy knowing that it DOES go on. Finally, we must return to it.
Finding this a soulful and poignant piece. Thank you and good luck!

Thank you, Robyn. I have lost four siblings in two years, just that way. I actually still have an older sister still alive. My grandkids are a real breath of fresh air.

I'm so sorry. I only have one brother, and can't imagine what it would be like to lose him. Sending hugs-

Well, now that brought a tear to my eye, Bill -- nothing flowery, just the simple truth of keeping our heart in the land of the living... and family is the anchor of that truth!! ;) A great reminder for the young to be sure to keep in touch... ;) :) Thank you for the joyful tear this morning! ;) Yvette

Grandchildren remind us that we are still important, and have little concept of death and those little faces light up when they see an old familiar face, love Dolly x

Very poetically written. There is so much grief in our autumn/winter years with so much loss. But the "summer" sun of our grandchildren brings back the joy in life. Best wishes in the contest!

Bill, this is precious. I like the surprise ending. It emphasizes what communication with a loved one can do for our mood. It makes our life brighter. A difficult past is hard to forget, but a "Hi, Gwampa" changes everything. It makes us feel blessed!
As always, I enjoyed your story:)

Dear Bill, indeed the words of Shakespeare can still apply in very meaningful ways to our lives even today.
Your use of his words in this Flash Fiction Contest is a Bit of brave genius. I hope the judges for this contest from the CEC think so too!
