This was so sweet and humorous! Enjoyed your cooking adventure stories - especially the exploding rocket chicken. I never did understand about putting a can into a chicken. I was too chicken to try something like that. I figured that would leave too metallic a taste!
One verb tense suggestion:
I learned Harvey give me food signals (gave)

Very amusing! (Suggestion: move the line MY FRIEND ENJOYED ... RESTAURANT after you describe the beer explosion.) One chuckle after another--this is a treat! Cheers. LIZ

This is hilarious! Much like some of my cooking escapades. I once cooked a casserole and substituted ingredients I did not have. Bless his heart, hubby ate it without complaint, but did say when I went to make another later, he wished I wouldn't. lol.

This is a very nice and nostalgic story. I gew up with my grandma and she was the best best cook. I remember the smell of fresh baked bread in those cold mornings. Thank you for posting this nostalgic and sweeet story.

I remember I learned to cook, when too many spoiled meals had to be thrown away as a teenager by my mother, because I was tomcatting exploits brought me home late, so, liking good food, I taught myself, mum was an excellent cook. I got a real belly laugh out of this my friend, it was hilarious. Of course, there's so much info on the net, it's a bit easier these days, well done, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy for your comments. I truly appreciate it. My Mum died when I was 7 years old so I have no memory of her cooking. So for a few years, it was trial and error. (well mostly error!)

I?m so sorry Mary, we need mums so badly

Very interesting story. Trial and error is the way we learn. I like the part where you forgot to open the beer can and it exploded and the chicken flew up in the air. ð???

Mary,
What fun. I think most of us have gone through such exciting trial and error experiments as we attempted to become the cooks our moms and grandmothers were. --sigh-- Not all of us achieved all the success we desire. hahaha (I do okay and my family ain't starving, but...)
I noticed a few things in your story that need some extra attention - I made some notes for you below. Feel free to use what you like, if anything, and toss the rest.
1.) In cooking those frozen dinners, I quickly became an experienced cook.
--> Is she kidding? This sounds like she's merely defrosting and heating frozen dinners from the grocery store freezer section...?
2.) cooking mastery and use the cookbook, I received from my aunt.
--> no comma
3.) This book rated recipes by difficulty either easy or average so it could not have been easier.
--> 'easy'x2
4.) there were rats with their front t(ee)th broken as they tried to chew through the lasagna.
--> multiple rats = multiple teeth
Very intriguing! I'm glad you stuck with it. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you the first paragraph was just meant as a joke. That cooking the frozen dinners heightened my cooking experience. Dad had Oncore dinners every night.
thank you also for the other comments, I will fix.

I enjoyed your veryb entertaining travel through the world of culinary efforts. Though a few missteps, you finally conquered the world of cooking and I am sure Harvey is one happy man. I liked Harvey's food signals too.

This is hilarious although it probably didn't seem so funny when you were going through it. I love to cook and was fortunate enough to learn at an early age-I love the internet access to anything you might want to cook.
