A very well-written heartfelt non-fiction story about a haunted house that disappeared at the second visit. Some research reveal that the house burned down with the mother and her three children.

Yes, indeed that is the truth of my experience and writing prose is not my "thing" so I enjoyed at very least giving it a try. Thanks for your kind review!--Karenina

That was really weird, and creepy. I believe it, too. There are things that happen that no one can explain, and you experienced one such event. The fact that you were with your brother at the time shows it couldn't have been a young girls imagination. I love true stories like this. Well done and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

I expected a whole lot of naysayers. Thank-you for being the first review and for believing what was an all too real very strange and "creepy" situation. When I saw the non-fiction contest I knew this was exactly what I wanted and needed to share. Thanks, Sandra for a very nice review! Not sure I can sign my name so I will leave this as anonymous...

Ooh, now you've given me the willies. LOL. But strangely enough, I believe every words of what you've written. I've got a couple of those stories of my own. True stories bordering on the twilight zone. Great job! Thanks for sharing. And I can hardly wait for more!

It's all because of you...encouraging me to give prose more of a chance than I have up to now. Non-Fiction brought this to mind and I truly wanted to share. Indeed there are unexplainable events that occur...Thanks for believing the story and thanks more for believing in me. I never know with these contests if I can sign my name--so I will leave it at anonymous!

As a very successful actor, screen writer, author and friend once told me, "You either have a story in you or not." And he would agree with me, you are full of magical stories to be shared with the awaiting world. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks! A quiet weekend (Thanks or No Thanks to COVID)--- Karenina

Glad you chose to keep quiet and hopefully stay safe. Beautiful weather around here has them partying in the streets and more marching madness. I haven't left the house but for Long Horns and Olive Garden pickups. I thought about pestering you with a message, but thought better of it, figuring you were busy with family and friends. Hope the quiet and rest does you well. :-)

I don't have any secrets, but if you would rather email without sharing every word with the world, I would be happy to give you another email? And if you are uncomfortable with that idea, for whatever reason, that's okay too. I just thought I would offer. I'm not on here every day either. :-)

What an exciting story! I believe such things happen, although I've not experienced it myself. I wonder why you were allowed to enter the house that one time and then it disappeared. Hmmmm. Thanks for sharing this.

I have since talked with the very famous Elaine Warren and she verified this is not the first time such a thing has been brought to her attention. She accepts it as psychic phemonena but can explain it no more or less than that. I so appreciate your belief in my story and in giving it such a fine review. Don't know if I can sign or not so I'll leave it at anonymous... Thanks again!

Good to see you back, Karenina! Hope you and your husband are well.
Did you write about this memory before? I remember a story about house that spookily wasn't there when you went back. For whatever reason, God wanted you to remember these people and grieve with the mother.
Best wishes in the contest!

Minor punctuation nits:
"Alrighty then."!" (period or exclamation and just one end quote)
James guffawed... You two numb skulls got me again! (quotes needed?)
everything I've stated is true. (Maybe needs open quote? At least capitalize the E as 'everything' starts the sentence.)

Keen eye. I can always count on you to offer editing advice in a kind and generous way. Will correct soon as I answer these reviews. I don't recall submitting this tale before... Lord knows I've thought about it enough! I'll go check!--Gratefully, K

Your story it's a tragic event that drugs you into a fire that killed a family with no explanation. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest and with your writings.

It was all very strange. I was the type who shied away from supernatural or eerie things so it has stayed with me for many years. It was therapeutic to write about it. Thanks!--K

I think this is very well written and presented so I can see myself tagging along with you. I wonder why they all three were in the cubby hole?
I wonder if there were anything in the paper of the house.wast it set on fire or were they killed by someone?

My brother and I found no cause for the fire discovered in our research... Reporting wasn't what it is now back in 1921, I think. Our joint "sense" was the children were hidden behind the chest of drawers as some sort of punishment--as they were the children of the mother found charred. I wish I was older and more mature at the time--so much more I would have done! Thanks for your kind review!--K

Your tale had me riveted from beginning to end. You have captured a glimpse of the paranormal beyond the everyday that could be seen as a privilege or a curse. Inexplicable.

I agree. It is inexplicable and it is both a privilege AND a curse! I am happy with the reception to this story--I sort of expected a bunch of "no way that could have happen" and I haven't gotten one thus far! I very much appreciate your review, thanks!--K

Wow, this is an eerie recollection. It sounds as if something opened to a view of the past, but the universe closed the door again. I like the line: Oh, how I wish I could wrap this up with a bow.
Just a suggestion on this sentence: Not one to be dissuaded I knew it would be fruitless to quiz him, so I shrugged and muttered "Alrighty then."!"
Try it this way on punctuation: Not one to be dissuaded, I knew it would be fruitless to quiz him, so I shrugged and muttered, "Alrighty, then!"
