Ciao mystery poet, there was lots of competition but in the end I gave you my vote .. You have 4 now.
I enjoy observing what goes on in my wee patch of green ... once I was watching a spider sitting in his web waiting for insect to get stuck in his sticky net , when a tiny sparrow out of the blue swooped down and the predator became prey ..
Life is so unpredictable ... In the blink of the eye everything can change.
butterflies are so beautiful .. I love those bright green/ yellow ones ..

What a beautiful story! The ending was a bit sad for the poor butterfly, though. I enjoyed reading your colorful descriptions. You included some very vivid imagery. I felt the tranquility of a lovely morning scene. Your lovely tale reminds me of the hummingbirds who drink nectar from our feeders. Pretty picture that you used. Butterflies are so graceful.

Congratulations on this well-written piece! How disappointing to have that poor little butterfly eaten at the last moment! At the same time; blue jays are also gorgeous animals and must eat something! Good luck with the competition!

Wow, thank you so much for the fantastic review and giant sixer, ALB. Not long ago a friend of mine saw these giant yellow butterflies in her back yard. One was snatched up by a blue jay right in front of her and its big yellow wings were hanging out of its beak as it flew away. That's what actually inspired this silly piece. I dearly appreciate the gracious rating and good luck wishes. I'm glad you liked my little story. Have a wonderful day and thank you again.

Bugger!!!! What a spoilsport of a blue jay... just doing what comes naturally. You painted the peace and grace of the morning scene most poetically, lulling us with its tranquility.... then death strikes. It happens to us all.
