This is a very poignant account. I was a bit saddened because there was only one wolf left there. Even sadder was the fact that the empathic gift had been squelched. Although as the speaker said,
" Nahahni was a wise mother." This will draw the reader in to reflect upon why Nahahni thought it better to discourage an Empathic spirit. I like the entire theme you address here.

Dear Liz, Thank you for your review and the five stars . Yes, Nahahni was wise in Wolf Lore and thought it best not to burden her children with the added weight of Animal Empathy. However it is a gift that chooses more than it is chosen, so who knows what may develop n them as they mature. Thanks again for your comments cheers Cass

It is indeed a gift that chooses more than it is chosen. My therapist, years ago, told me I was like a lightning rod. One of my dowsing students who is an empath, told me that I am an empath. That makes sense.

A very well-written animal story about the ability to talk to animals and hear what they say to us. It will be interesting to hear what they think about human behaviour in this chaotic times.

Yes, it certainly would be a lesson for all Mankind to learn just what the other species of animals on the planet think of them. I blush with embarrassment to think I'll be lumped in with the forest destroyers, the ocean polluters and the "use it and pitch it" brigade.cheers Cass

It would be wonderful to be able to communicate this way with animals. I'm convinced that pets learn the language even though they can't speak it. They respond so well to the spoken word. I like the plot of this story very much, how the female was the ruler of the pack.

Dear Friend, Thank you for your review and the five stars. The female
presenting as the dominant partner was as much a surprise to me as anyone else. It just "happened" before I had a chance to think about it
Correctly though, because in wolf "Lore" the females are the law makers. Cheers Cass

I enjoyed this story. You held my attention. It would be fun to get into the mind of animals. I had the experience when I was younger, we didn't know our dog understood our every word until we had to say goodbye. Great story. Veenbee

Dear Veenbee, Thank you for your review and the five stars. Yes, children and young folk often have the gift for understanding animals. How sad that you only realized the depth of your pet's
comprehension so soon before he died.cheers Cass

It would be wonderful to talk to the animals, really cool. You ask interesting questions after the story. Your story presents an interesting idea that animals can converse with people as they have a gift as well.

Dear Friend, Thank you for your review and the five stars. My views on communication between Man and all the other life forms upon the earth is one of "wait and see " Who knows what the future may have in store for us. cheers Cass

Little Red Ridding Hood did. She spoke to the wolf and was not sure about the old gal's features.
Good post and sometimes I do think animals can understand what we are saying.
Have a great and safe day Cass.

Dear Ben, Thank you for your review and the five stars. Animals are far wiser and cleverer than Man gives them credit for. Wolves are one of my totem animals, which is why I respect them and love them so much. thanks for the review cheers Cass

Well done. I believe animals do talk to each other and you gave the extra element of human interaction. I chuckled that the wolf spoke French or had the French Canadian accent.

Dear Blondie, Thank you for your review and the awesome SIX stars. The French Canadian accent just seemed natural, given where he came from. I am glad you enjoyed it.This piece was experimental, but may be an augury for others in the future . cheers Cass

I enjoyed your fanciful story for the Animal Crackers Club, Cass. It was fun to read but also think about why you wrote it. I love the way you had the wolves speak. The cubs were cute additions, too. That day even though it had rained, was a special one for the wolves and the woman. The ending was great. As they say,' mothers know best.'
May I suggest:
he adopted a bashful, chops licking (chops-licking) demeanor.
I glanced at the big animal, but before I could look away, it ,( delete space after the word it but keep the comma delete the word it ] he spoke again.
"No madame,(add space here / capitalize madame-->Madame and any other uses of madame ])it is to me you will address yourself. I am Nahahni, daughter of Nokomis the wise."
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

I like how you portray the wolves here, a family, intelligent and able to communicate. The story is a pleasant one and the reader feels a sense of peace, as the main character shares her lunch with the wolves. Excellent tale about an unusual zoo adventure.

Dear Mermaids, Thank you for your review and the five stars. This is a wishful thinking story. I have always wondered what it would be like to be able to communicate with animals and this story is the result of letting that particular idea off its lead and seeing where it goes. I am glad you enjoyed it. cheers Cass
