"She was a child (who) loved birds."

What an incredibly sweet story, and you wrote it admirably. I pictured the scenes, most especially the bird funeral ...(awwwwww!) Wonderful!

Best of luck in the contest.

I know that children do some of the strangest and cutest things all at once. I'm an animal person although I don't own any currently though. My youngest daughter picked that up from me. When she was very young she would go up to any dog and reach to pet it even if it was barking its head off. She never got bit. Animals have a sense about them about fear and people. They also can pick up the character of a person. Thanks for sharing this well written work. Well done!

Children are so innocent and I think the animals sense that in them. Thanks for your review and kind words.

This story, Mockingbird Hill, captures the pure, unadulterated empathy that a child has for all living things, and some that are the losers of car versus bird.

Thank you very much for your kind words in reviewing my entry. She is still such a tender hearted person and no stray goes unfed. She may not be able to keep them all but finds good homes for them. I am proud of her.

This is wonderful story entry for the Story of Lyrics. It is amazing the way children think and react. Writing about children is a winner. Good luck in the contest!

Ahh childhood. You captured it very well, I reckon, especially with it being (I'm guessing) her first personal experience with death.

I'm not sure if I overlooked something, but I noticed that the clssification is as children's poetry, but it read more like a nonfiction autobiographical except. Was that category designating intentional?

This is so well done, with an interesting story included. You have at least two songs I know in it, and now they are stuck in my head! Best of luck in the contest, it's a great entry.

This short story is well done, you've definitely applied the lyrics to your prose so you've achieved the contest restraints which were rather difficult. Great work and best of luck. Later daze.

A very well-written heartfelt story in incorporating lyrics from Mockingbird Hill and Mares Eat Oats. A trip by car causing abd accident with a little bird that died and the amazing act of a four year old insisting on a hurial.

I remember Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy. A kid will eat ivy too, wouldn't you? LOL Anyway, a nice memory about you and your daughter and a bird laid to rest to the tune of Mocking Bird Hill with eulogy of Now I lay me down to sleep. A rather serious encounter for one little bird and one little girl! Good job!
