What a good read and God bless Smokey the rodeo clown. Is this poem based on fact or is it just a creation of your imagination. I loved the great flow of this poem.

This poem, Smokey, is a ballad that is a testament to the bravest person in the rodeo arena. The one who goes in when others are running out, and is willing to sacrifice his health and maybe life to keep riders from dying. Here's to Smokey.

True story? It's a great tale either way, I find it astounding how these guys risk there life at these rodeos..both rodeo clowns and the participants. I love this great rhyming poem.

An excellent metaphorical lesson.
The bull rider was the Star. The crowds, cheering; they came from afar.
The clown was not deemed essential; a diversion, at best.
He danced and jumped, and yelled out loud, all to energize the crowd.
Smokey Brown had a serious role, "do not let death take a toll."
Being a protector, a first responder, yet heralded by few; his true purpose was hidden, few knew.
And so he went about his task, to protect the bull rider; his task was vast.
Like police, emergency medical responders, fire fighters, and soldiers, who respond.
For it is not the plaque, the headstone, or the eulogy.
It is the memory of the life that was given, so the life of another may be spared.
Now, all who see the bandana will give a prayer of thanks for Smokey Brown.
His bandana is his crown, a remarkable beacon to all who come around.
Smokey was serious, not "a clown," he was the most courageous man in town.
Many, once famous people, will be forgotten.
Not Smokey Brown, his story will forever ring as the bell to the memory, "...whatever you do for the least of mine, you do for me."
"...hey, Willie, thanks!"

I love the story in this poem. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I've been to many rodeos and always admired the bravery of the clowns.
They might appear to be there just for entertainment, but, as in the case of Smokey's story, they've saved many a rodeo cowboy's lives.

Few if indeed any heroes leave home planning to do something heroic. Circumstances along with intestinal fortitude come together to elicit the courageous acts that make one a hero or a goat depending on their actions. The one who runs away in terror just did not have that gene within him. I would not say that it was his fault as much as it was his failing more than anything else.

I think the idea of the piece is 100% there and for the most part I think it's very good, but I think with a bit more whittling and adjusting, this could be turned into an almost sing-songy limerick that would fly off the page (or in this instance screen). Still, great work here, thanks for sharing. Later daze.
