I totally understand your fear of sharks, I am deathly afraid of them too, but my worst ones are snakes. I don't know what it is about these slimy creatures that almost makes me faint when I see one. An excellent story - it held a reader in suspense; I admit, I was waiting that somewhere in the story we will see a shark pop up, but it didn't happen. You described other fears well, and there some many can relate to. Good artistic presentation and artwork - and thank you for that large font! It was soothing to these eyes (smile).

Excellent descriptive imagery and visuals. I wish you luck in the contest.

I hope you didn't visualize me in a bathing suit. :) talk about scary.
But, I have to tell you, several years ago I was a docent at our local zoo and back then they had us take animals to schools and let the kids touch them. I had three animals, a hedgehog, (lots of sharp spines, but a cute little fella,) a 3-banded armadillo and a 5 ft boa constrictor I named Bo for bodacious. When we went to the schools, my partner and I, she would tell all about the animals and I held them and walked around the school room so they could touch them. To clear up one myth about snakes, they aren't slimy. They're very dry. But one time this little boy was trying to show off when I was holding Bo and he hit him on the head. Bo immediately started squeezing me( he was wrapped around my waist and arm. I froze and stood as still as I could and tried to relax( the kids' eyes were huge), and finally he relaxed and I put him back in his little house.
After that we had to stop going to the schools, which was too bad because that was just one incident. All the other kids loved it and learned more by seeing them up close. One neat thing, my kids were in awe of me - which, naturally, was pretty cool. :)
Thank you so much for your very nice comments! They are much appreciated.

Oh, thank God Bo didn't do any damage. Snakes freeze me into immobility.

I worked in an office a few years back, and the owner loved pythons. He had a couple in the back room of the office - their names were Adam and Eve. Employees used to play with them - they wrapped them around their wrists and hands while I watched, frozen into immobility.

A Very well-written story about the fear of sharks that are the fear I'd many people. The sharks are strong and big and will hurt someone very badly when we came across such a fearless creature.

Fears tend to change as we get older. They can become even more reinforced or they can lighten. Still there but somehow more manageable. Out fears grow and change as we grow and change.

I would not be happy to see sharks swimming in the waters near me either!

I know the statistics say "It not a likely happening'" ... But where there is ONE ... It could one ME!

Enjoyed.

Best of luck in the Your Greatest Fear writing contest.

I can understand a fear of sharks, a guy I worked with had a huge bite out of his left calf from a shark. I've had both my hips replaced so being immobile sucks. Good luck in the contest.

The countries I lived had no sharks, so I am afraid of them be default:) or maybe because of jaws. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

I would really like for someone to tell me if they serve a purpose in the fish world.

I think if there was a mammal I would be more afraid of than sharks, it's a crocodile. Especially as they roam so freely, particularly in places like Florida. A well written piece. I thought it was an engaging piece of writing. Good luck in the contest!

The title is absolutely genius, very clever and creative to use the music to Jaws. The story is truly entertaining and captivating. This is a great entry and the end is priceless. Really great job. Best of luck in the contest.

Sharks have been stereotyped as eating people all the time, yet they rarely attack. I suppose it is a healthy fear to have and not swim with them. I think as we age, we have fears like breaking a hip.
